President Obama has taken a dramatic step regarding the immigration problems that are wracking the nation's purse and conscience. Out of the blue, he is sending 1,200 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border to back up the Border Patrol. He will ask Congress for $500 million to boost border security. This marks a real change in the Obama administration's approach to immigration, which until now has been confused and half-hearted, with lots of talk about a "comprehensive" immigration policy but without much enthusiasm or action.
What happened to all the money that was already designated for this damn border problem????
Just wait --he'll immediately hand it over to Mexico to "help" them.
Let’s see, 1200 soldiers working in three shifts is 400 soldiers at a time.
The M2 Browning .50 cal machine gun has a maximum range of 1800m. So a 135 degree front field of fire would give it coverage of about 3000 meters left to right. Each gun would have a 2 man crew, so that is 200 firing positions at 3000 meters each.
600 kilometers of border covered. About 372 miles. The US-Mexico border is 3,169 km (1,969 miles).
We’re going to need about 7,200 National Guardsmen to cover the whole border. Not including those that support them.
Fortunately, there are about 17,000 Border Patrol agents already on the US Mexico border. So maybe we can get some of them to man those machine gun nests.
He needs to leave office and now.
Ping!
Didn’t Obama say he has no time for border issues? He also had little time for oil spill. But he sure has had time to meet with soccer team, etc.
