Wasilla Paper Warns Palin Author of Deadly Force Law (Ref: Creepy author Joe McGinniss)
CBS News ^ | May 31, 2010 | Scott Conroy

In an editorial posted on its website Sunday night, Sarah's Palin's hometown newspaper in Wasilla, Alaska, warned author and journalist Joe McGinniss (who has moved next door to Palin as he conducts research for a book on the former governor) about a state law that allows the use of deadly force to defend one's property.

The editorial, titled "Wasilla fence fascinating for national media outlets," paints a disparaging portrait both of McGinniss' work and the national media's coverage of his controversial decision to take up temporary residence so close to Palin.

Its concluding sentence reads, "Finally, those who are fond of Joe McGinnis [sic] might remind him (if he doesn't already know) that Alaska has a law that allows the use of deadly force in protection of life and property."

Managing editor Tom Mitchell, who wrote the editorial, said that it was vetted by the Frontiersman's publisher, Kari Sleight, and a reporter at the newspaper.

"I didn't see it as being controversial. It's just a statement of fact," Mitchell told CBS News.

--snip--

On Saturday, McGinniss told his side of the story to the Washington Post, emphasizing that he respected Palin's privacy and was not interested in spying on her children, as Palin had suggested he was.

Look, this is a pain in the ass for them," he told the Post. "I understand that. If I were her, I'd be upset. I'd be annoyed. But I'd be an adult about it, and I would figure out, okay, how can we resolve this in a way that's not going to make this into something that everybody gets obsessive about?

"By being here, I have learned things, and I've gotten an insight into her character, into her ability to incite hatred, that before I only knew about in the abstract."(continued)

Someone should write an unauthorized story about McGinniss stalking Palin.

Kudos for a post worthy of a conservative as opposed to the litany of suggestions that are patently illegal, juvenile, or just plain stupid. Not to mention that you're suggestion is the first I've read in any thread where the punishment (for lack of a better word) is appropriate to the (again for lack of a better word) crime.

You were doing fine in articulating a conservative approach until you said this:

In the case of the latter, the seller is pretty much obligated to sell to the first person who shows up with the asking price.

You lost me with "obligated."

It was referencing the current state of discrimination law. You can dislike it as much as you please, but it remains the standard of practice in real estate. Want to make a realtor's head explode. Tell him you're turning down an offer at his price and holding out for someone else. He'll drop you as a client to protect himself so fast it will make your head spin.

She already did — within a day or so. I commented on her FB page when he moved in that Congress should pay attention because she would show just how fast a fence can be put up if you’re SERIOUS about building one! They already had what looks like a 6ft. fence. It’s now at least a 10-12 ft. fence. They merely extended it... HOWEVER, as I said it was finished in a day or two - Palin remarked that Todd and a couple of his friends took care of it...

I find this fascinating, the guy is called a pervert with regularity without a shred of proof.

I find your statement fascinating also. If you looked out your window and saw someone looking back with binoculars, and you have small children. You would be frightened. If your not alarmed by this type of behavior - could you explain to me why not???

Maybe a few big burly Alaskan men...

I can't finish this - everything I come up with sounds angry. And this kind of guy feeds on our misery... what a sh^t...

"McGinniss needs to be...ahem...politely shown out of town. Yes, I’m serious."

~~~~~~~~~
Feathers should be easy to come by in Alaska.
I'm not sure of the exact species of trees that grow around Wasilla, but there are plenty here in the Texas Piney Woods that produce nice, sharp-edged, splintery, resinous rails when freshly split.
If someone wants to handle the transport, I'll gladly grab the chain saw and sacrifice one of my "money trees" -- and donate it to the cause...
I don't want to be greedy; someone else can supply the tar... '-)
I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware of any instance of him peering into the Palin household with binoculars. That’s certainly a crime. Why hasn’t he been charged already? Do you have a link to the binocular thing that I could read?
No, it's a free country. You can rent or buy a house from anyone who's willing to buy or sell to you. In the case of the latter, the seller is pretty much obligated to sell to the first person who shows up with the asking price.
You call it "a free country" in one sentence and then in your second sentence you say that the seller is "pretty much obligated to sell to the first person who shows up with the asking price".
That's a contradiction.
I’d be interested in what type of neighborhood you grew up in. Just curious. You seem to have a different perspective on neighbors...
Where I grew up - if neighbor does something you don’t like, you don’t immediately rush to press charges. That’s not an option with alot of neighbors.
The managing editor of the paper wrote this and he couldn’t even spell the guy’s name correctly?
There's nothing wrong with being a few bucks short of buying a plane ticket.
Maybe I can kick a few.
Nope. That's no sin at all.
It would be wrong to put bacon grease around his doors or on his car. It would be wrong.
LOL.
