White House 'deeply regrets' loss of life on Gaza flotilla

UN calls for full inquiry after Israel Navy commandos storm international aid boat; European Union condemns incident. The White House on Monday said it "deeply regretted" the loss of life and injuries sustained in the clashes after Israel Navy troops stormed a convoy of international activists bringing aid to the Gaza Strip, leaving at least 10 people dead."The United States deeply regrets the loss of life and injuries sustained, and is currently working to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragedy," said White House spokesman William Burton.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for a full investigation and expressed shock at Israel's storming of the flotilla.

"It is vital that there is a full investigation to determine exactly how this bloodshed took place. I believe Israel must urgently provide a full explanation," he said at a press conference in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.

France became the first European nation to respond to the early morning's events. Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said he was "profoundly shocked".

Many of the activists aboard the protest ships were European nationals and analysts have predicted a harsh diplomatic response from the European Union and its member states.

The European Union demanded an inquiry and Germany said it was "shocked". The United Nations condemned violence against civilians in international waters.

Germany, one of Israel's most loyal allies, expressed shock at the deadly interception and questioned whether the action by Israeli commandos was proportionate.

Two members of the Bundestag lower house of parliament were among five Germans on board the ships, the foreign ministry said...

If Turkey ups the ante with warships and planes, as they most certainly will, then Israel should and must sink the entire flotilla.

I doubt that Turkey would send in its navy but if it were then Israel would be vastly outclassed at sea. According to Haze Gray and Underway the naval matchup is:

Turkey: 20 frigates, 3 corvettes, 16 submarines, 46 patrol boats

Israel: 4 corvettes, 10 patrol boats, 3 submarines

Israel's strength is in its army and air force, not its navy.

However, while Turkey only houses some old nuclear weapons on NATO bases it doesn’t actually possess it’s own nuclear weapons program.
I’m pretty sure Israel has them beat in that area.

So? If they would attack turkey they would be at war with NATO.

True, my supposition is if Israel attacked any muslim country they would need to attack all of their enemies (most of the middle east). It would most definitely be M.A.D.

It’s nice to see a country protects its borders. American Jews, this POS (President of the States) in the WH has neither your interests as Americans in this matter, nor the interests of the majority of the CITIZENS of the United States’ interests at heart in his antisemetic drive for islamic dominion over the middle East.

Video of IDF soldiers unloading "humanitarian" shipping containers which (hold onto your hats I hope you're sitting down) contains weapons, rockets, mortars, etc.

Turkey attacked Greece circ 1978. Both members. Not that it matters, but Turkey would be the aggressor. No, I don’t want to see the US attacking Israel, but I do think that would hassen Obambi’s exit. Also, thanks to Jimmy Carter, our navy is vulnerable to balistic nuclear weapons. The Agis cruisers were designed to protect against that, but Jimmy decided that capacity would be provocative so the cruisers were added to the fleet without anti-ICBM capability. I don’t know if that was ever corrected. But, since then our navy has simply been a floating target for any ICBM armed country.

Yes, but as the many conflicts during the Cold War show, nuclear weapons do not count for much in a low level conflict. Again, I doubt that Turkey would send in the navy but if were does Israel really want to confront them? As strong as Israel is it position is still precarious and they really do not need any new enemies. It would be in Israel’s best interest to mollify Turkey before this gets out of hand.

Would the IDF go in without cameras? I wonder if vid was shot while they boarded?

I would bet dollars to donuts they have video of the incident as well as satellite / drone surveillance

But you really think that documentation matters to the vast majority of Israel critics?

I want to know who it is in the White House that is issuing these edicts. It is obvious that the vacationing Obama knows nothing about them.

And best of all, they are already in the inventories of every navy for use as decoys and other purposes. Only the homing method (acoustic to propellers) and payload would be changed, so they could be modified and put into service as ship disablers very quickly.

I’ll take this video at face value. Of course they were trying to arm Gaza.

The fact that Israel didn’t kill the whole lot of them shows great restraint.

Israel's strength is in its army and air force, not its navy.

Israeli warplanes can and will sink Turkish warships if the Turks are so stupid.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for a full investigation and expressed shock at Israel's storming of the flotilla.

Oh, Bull! He's a liar.

The Israelis have been saying for days that they would maintain the blockade, and in light of the "flotilla" that was headed their way, they even invited it to port at Ashkod on the Israeli coast ffor inspection.

The Secretary-General knew this damn well. He also knew the Israelis would not back down. So, now he is shocked?

Why wasn't he shocked when the flotilla departed despite the Israeli protests and the leaders of said flotilla said they would run the blockade?

None of this happened in a vacuum. The Secretary-General and the United Nations are going to go to war with Israel.

Bible predictions from Zechariah are going to come true.* All this is happening before our eyes.

Of course, given the hatred arrayed against them and the frevent Islamic wish to kill all the Jews, the Israelis can't back down without losing their country and lives, and they know it, and the Sec-Gen knows it. He's really fanning the flames now, probably due to the heavy infestation of Fundy Islamists running so many countries nowadays and the temptation of petro-dollars.

I'm shocked at what a blatant liar he is.

*Zechariah, 12:2 behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of reeling unto all the peoples round about, and upon Judah also shall it be in the siege against Jerusalem. 12:3 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the peoples; all that burden themselves with it shall be sore wounded; and all the nations of the earth shall be gathered together against it.
