SEATTLE - A 16-year-old boy from West Seattle says he was held hostage and beaten for hours, all because of the color of his skin.
Shane McClellan says two men kicked and whipped him at gunpoint - and told him they singled him out because he is white.
Tim McClellan, Shane's father, says he barely recognized his son after the brutal assault.
"I didn't know if he was alive or dead," Tim McClellan said.
The incident happened as Shane McClellan was walking home from a birthday party at a friend's house Tuesday around 2 a.m.
Shane says two men called to him from the top of a staircase near the intersection of 14th Avenue SW and SW Holden Street. The men asked for a light, and when Shane walked over to oblige, they knocked him to the ground and started kicking him.
The two men knocked the frightened teen around on the staircase, making racially charged remarks.
"They started bringing up the past - like slavery - being like, white people did this," Shane said in an exclusive interview with KOMO News reporter Shomari Stone.
The attackers stripped off McClellan's belt and started whipping his back.
"They said, 'This is for what your people did to our people.' They were like whipping me with my belt, my studded belt," Shane recounts.
One of the men held a gun against the back of his head and burned his neck with cigarettes.
At one point they shoved McClellan's face into a hole with the gun against his head. They also urinated on him and poured beer over him.
"What he told me, when they were beating him with the belt, they were saying, 'I don't like white people,'" says Shane's father, Tim McClellan.
Shane recalls, "They're like, 'Aw, white boy, what are you doing? You can't hang out this late. What are you doing around here?' They're like, 'White boy has no belonging - being out here at 2 a.m.'"
"They targeted me for being white, and they made it very clear thats why they were assaulting me," Shane says.
The boy told police that one of his attackers appeared to be black and the other Asian or Pacific Islander.
The victim's father says this was nothing short of hours of torture.
"Put a gun to the back of his head and told him if he said anything they were going to blow his head off while they sat there and burned him with cigarettes on the back of the neck," he says.
The two assailants held the victim on the ground for some time, and Shane eventually passed out.
When he regained consciousness, the attackers were gone. They had taken his money, a coat and an MP3 player.
Shane waved down a passing car for help and met his family at the hospital.
Seattle police have referred the case to their Bias Crimes Unit for review as a possible hate crime.
Detectives told the family they are working on a photo montage of possible suspects - and will see if the victim is able to identify his attackers from the line-up.
Shane is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.
But he gets chills when he looks at the photos that were taken of him right after the attack.
"Gets me shaken up every time I see it," he says. "I don't know, I just get vibes overall from seeing those pictures."
He says he has learned not to wander through the neighborhood at 2 in the morning - and he hopes his attackers are caught and charged with a hate crime.
I’m in the burbs - and clear free of Seattle most of the time. Mainly the traffic. And Pioneer Square sure ain’t what it used to be.

I did not say that, in fact I specifically said not that, I said his injuries are real.
However, his story is a little dramatic.
Now it may well be that the fellow is telling the 100% truth.
It may also be that he was into some serious stuff he does not want the parents to know about so he made up this story...about black guys beating him up....because of slavery.
I also said that if the shoe was on the other foot the MSM would never doubt him, although those here would likely have a jaundiced eye.

Your questions are good ones, but if it were a black 16 year old walking home at 2am and got beat up, all hell would be breaking loose. Nobody would question just what the teen was doing out that late.
Uh, seriously? I’d say pretty close to zero.
I didn't see anything in the story to cast suspicion on the victim. The victim didn't randomly walk up to two black dudes at 2:00am. The story says they called out to the victim and asked for a light. Now I don't know anything about this kid's politics, but if he's anything like my white Seattle friends he probably heard a little voice in his head that said "stay away from these guys", which was then shouted down by the much louder voice in his head that said "if you don't give them a light you're a raaaacist".
You shouldn't dismiss it out of hand...black hatred of whites is a distinguishing cultural characteristic of the Seattle area. The places where white people are the most apologetic and guilt-ridden over their race seem to be the same places where they get their heads stomped the most. We got national press for the full-on race riot during mardi gras a few years ago. More recently we had the horrifying murder of James Paroline, not to mention a slew of cop-killings.
Seattle is not a safe place to be. There is lots of crime around the University district and Belltown. Visitors better know they can't count on police to help them out.
If you do protect yourself you can bet the officials in charge will focus their attention on you rather than your attackers. That is the way it is and that is why I avoid Seattle.
Is it White Center? I thought it was too far from the heart to make it for White Center.
And if this is even close to White Center, there is a distinct lack of concern about police.
This is 100% 0bama’s fault.
He has set the tone for this atmosphere in America.
Maybe he can invite the teen over for another “beer summit.”
I don’t know. The racial banter has been heard here before. A few years back during some large celebration in downtown Seattle, don’t recall the holiday, a large group of black guys singled out some white men and at least one woman, and pummeled them while shouting racial commentary. Previous to that there was an incident at some party where a group of high schoolers had congregated, some unfamiliar Hispanic thugs, crashed the party and announced they were there to “kick white guys asses”.
Of course the local authorities denied race had anything to do it.
This crap has been happening all over the country for years now. They’re animals. They aren’t really human. They’re feral, urban hyenas that run in packs assaulting, killing, raping and maiming. Every last one of them needs a bullet in the forehead.
They’re taught to hate whitey from the cradle. It’s gotten worse since zero was elected. The black thuggery component, which makes up a large part of black society in this country, view the election of zero as carte blanche/open season on whitey.
80% chance he was trying to buy drugs and was robbed and beaten.
But a person never knows.
This was NOT a hate crime, though. Right? If blacks hurt whites, it’s not racism. Right?
I can see the kid being out at 2am, going home from a party. He should NOT have been walking alone.
Could it be that he was just 16? Maybe he had some alcohol at that party?
That combination right there easily reduces smart to dumb.
