1 year after officer tackled him, man is bedridden, wife is caretaker
Seattle Times ^ | 16 May 10 | Sara Jean Green

Posted on 05/29/2010 10:19:58 AM PDT by Drew68

OLYMPIA — Sarah Harris goes through the motions of her day trying hard not to think about what life was like a year ago — or what it would be like now if not for "the incident."

She feels guilty leaving the house, even if only for a couple of hours to visit her mom or sister, to run errands, or go grocery shopping. She still cries every night.

Her husband, the first boy she kissed and the only man she's ever loved, suffered a catastrophic brain injury when his head slammed into a concrete wall after a brief footchase with two King County sheriff's deputies on Mother's Day 2009. He's now confined to bed, unable to talk, walk or do anything for himself.

Christopher Sean Harris spent six weeks at Harborview Medical Center, where his family was encouraged to remove him from life support because doctors didn't think he'd ever come out of a coma. But he did, and was transferred to an Edmonds nursing home in June.

Sarah Harris, who worked as a manager for Nordstrom and dreamed of becoming a buyer for the department store, gave up her job to care for her husband.

"I loved my job, and I miss it all the time," she said. "But I knew there was no way I could go back to work and leave him alone in a nursing home all day. There was no decision to even make."

“To the police officer, he was a fleeing felon, and not only is he allowed by law to use force to subdue him, but he is expected to do so.”

You have no idea how many layers of ignorance you displayed in that one sentence.

“The suspect was identified as such by a witness, and the suspect was fleeing. The officer’s actions are justified.”

“All that is necessary to be a cop is to have the same psychological profile as the people they are allegedly protecting us from, and that profile is that they consider themselves to be above the law.”

That psych profile cluster also encompasses politicians and trial attorneys, btw.

To be fair, police ARE expected to have more going for them. This is usually the case, but not always, hence this thread.

The video of him throwing SOMETHING on the ground is proof..

Proof of nothing, since he was charged with and convicted of nothing. The facts are not on your side so you take to demonizing the innocent.

You just want to give the cops a free hand with meting out your brand of "justice". Your attitude seems to be if a few people get hurt or killed in the process, "oh well", they probably deserved it. This is one of the main reasons that people hate cops. The abuse of power. Government thugs with little tin badges.

If you can’t control your emotions or have an ounce of common sense, then you shouldn’t be a cop. <-— This!

So why do you think the reporter didn’t mention the object that was thrown on the ground by the suspect? Why do you think she was trying to portray the police as dressed in anything but easily recognizable police uniforms?

What I think or what the reporter wrote are insignificant. It's what transpired between the officer and the "suspect" that is the subject of debate here. Would it really change anything if the reporter had wrote, "The heroic officer in his dashing, distinctive uniform launched his taut, muscular handsome body at the slimy looking, ne'er-do-well who clearly tried to conceal some type of apparent contraband from his unlaundered jeans."

It might make you feel better had the reporter portrayed it in that matter, but it doesn't change the facts or what is protrayed on the video.

Can you diagram that first sentence?

Or the logical connection with the second?

Combined, they sort of let the steam out of the third.

BTW - what IS your issue with inappropriate capitals?

What I think or what the reporter wrote are insignificant.

It's significant because it explains why he was running from the cops. It's significant because the theory of the plaintiffs in the the pending civil suit is that the suspect couldn't identify the police as police officers and that he had no other reason to disobey a lawful order to stop.

I doubt that neither I, nor the reporter will be called as witnesses at the civil trial. Again, our opinions don’t matter.
