Sue Lowden has touted her career as a businesswoman on the campaign trail, mocking Sen. Harry Reid for having spent scant years in the private sector.
The former state senator and Republican Party chairwoman, who hopes to be her partys nominee against Reid, has been described by national political reporters as a wealthy casino owner worth $50 million or more. Her story she came from nothing is one of uplift and socioeconomic mobility.
For Republican audiences fond of the free market, its an appealing message: A hardworking entrepreneur who has to meet payroll and so will keep intrusive government out of the way.
A Sun review of financial and other records tells a more complex story, although ultimately one that still points to significant financial success.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's connections to a substrata of money, mob and influence in Nevada going back fifty years. Revelations from Reid's former campaign manager paints an unkind picture of a politician looking for money on the side. Most shocking is that Harry Reid took campaign donations from pimp Joe Conforte of the Mustang Ranch brothel. Also disturbing are accounts of Reid's long friendship with a lawyer to many of the most notorious strip clubs in Las Vegas and part of the Tropicana skim. Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas Mayor and lawyer to the mob also enters the picture. Sweetheart treatment of land developers, the G-Sting scandal, fat cat campaign contributors and more taint the record of one of the most powerful politicians in the U.S. and therefore the world.
Freeper help in pushing my book to the media would be hugely appreciated. It is gaining some traction here in Nevada, but it needs a major news outlet to pop it to the top. It truly is a game changer.
