I remember seeeing trucks drive down our street spraying DDT out the back. Kids, usually boys, would be right behind running after the trucks. Thinking back, it’s amazing to think about that.
You know, the Ohio/Michigan contest actually goes back to a time when NW Ohio/S Michigan was a swamp. Ohio & Michigan nearly went to war over the territory. I don’t remember when that swamp was drained, but Toledo is in that territory. Factoid of the day. Don’t ask me where I remember that from. Probably the tales from my folks, who were history buffs.
Oh, and I remember that people, I think rival Indians, ATE Chief Pontiac when they caught and roasted him. Golly that’s a thought.
Of course, I post this with caution on this thread. ;> Part of me just wants to say, “Fight! Fight!” and go tell everybody to come watch and see. /irony
It was called the Black Swamp. It extended into Monroe County Michigan and west into Indiana. Mosquitoes were horrible in Toledo in the 50’s. I remember the spray trucks too.
Toledo Ohio, A.K.A. “Frogtown” due to the swamp you mentioned.
*oops.. I was born there..Uh oh*
