The light-brown material that was seen spilling out of the well throughout Thursday was the previously pumped fluid from the "top kill" procedure mixed with oil, he said..."I probably should apologize to folks that we haven't been giving more data on that," Suttles said when asked why it took so long for BP to announce it had suspended the top kill.

I know. I’m just sick over this whole thing.
Thanks. The tone there is complete pessimism, and at this hour they’re saying it looks like they’ve given up.
Obama gave BP a month to “save the well”. His statement Wednesday was cap it forever. It should tell you where his interest was. As soon as the politics became a fevered pitch he gave an order. He doesn’t give a damn about the Gulf and will now over-reach and deflect responsibility.
LOL!
Hayride sources indicate that todays effort at a top kill of the Macondo gusher carries with it gigantic stakes for BP as if no measurable progress is made on the spill through that method, President Obama will announce when he comes to New Orleans on Friday that the federal government will seize control of the response from BP and turn it over to the U.S. Navy.
Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus has reportedly floated the idea of sinking a battleship directly on top of the Macondo well in order to drop 80,000 tons on it and crush the drill pipe and the blowout preventer alike.
We havent confirmed it yet, but thats the word floating around Louisianas state capitol today.
Oh I know. I can’t say what I feel about that POS. His response has been all about politics. He doesn’t have a friggin’ clue about how to govern.
He couldn’t come right out and say he’s going to let BP try to save it because the looney left would have been all over him. He decided to let it go. The Lord does not rest in this man’s heart, otherwise he would have known.
Overreach is correct. As tragic as this accident is, to retreat from a policy of pursuing energy independence would be catastrophically worse. We have the technology. We have the energy reserves. We need the jobs. Lets do it right.
Its not just oil, but lets get thru the hump here and get it going on.

BP Resumes Work to Plug Oil Leak After Facing SetbackBy CLIFFORD KRAUSS and JOHN M. BRODER
Published: May 27, 2010
HOUSTON BP on Thursday night restarted its most ambitious effort yet to plug the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, trying to revive hopes that it might cap the well with a top kill technique that involved pumping heavy drilling liquids to counteract the pressure of the gushing oil.
BP officials, who along with government officials created the impression early in the day that the strategy was working, disclosed later that they had stopped pumping the night before when engineers saw that too much of the drilling fluid was escaping along with the oil.
It was the latest setback in the effort to shut off the leaking oil, which federal officials said was pouring into the gulf at a far higher rate than original estimates suggested.
If the new estimates are accurate, the spill would be far bigger than the Exxon Valdez disaster in 1989 and the worst in United States history.

That live feed may be a fraud like the rest of this mess — BP didn’t pump drilling mud into the hole for almost 24 hours. Quite Wednesday night after it was spewing both mud and oil and resumed tonight.
That Coast Guard person was out of line saying it worked when they were not even pumping mud at the time not to mention this Administration and BP led people to believe it was working when they were not even pumping.
I agree. Liberals do not play that way. They overreach on everything. If they don’t get it, obviously nobody else does.
I’ve been living in that stupid ideology for all my life.
The above is BP’s streaming camera link. It looks worse right now than it did about 12 hours ago. IMHO, the “top” looks to have more and “larger cracks” with more junk spewing from it.
Wish I could say I was shocked because 12 hours ago they were not pumping in drilling mud — wonder if they used too much pressure or it is the fact that what works on land may not work in the ocean with pressure on the tube.
Couldn’t believe when I read tonight at the NY Times that BP has not been putting drilling mud in the hole for 24 hours. Wonder if they saw more cracks developing?
Imagine a garden hose with a high pressure nozzle turned on full blast buried in three feet of mud shooting straight up. Even if you parked a D8 dozer on it , it would continue to leak.
I sent this suggestion to the Deepwater Horizon response suggestion box
" because the geology will not hold the pressure making efforts to plug the leak futile. Can the flow be diverted to the surface by means of a topping cone over the leak with an attached vessel with sufficient ballast to overcome the thrust pressure. Once the flow is diverted to the surface via an increasingly larger diameter pipe system to relieve pressure, the product, mud, hazardous gases, seawater, could be separated and loaded onto tankers and barges or to atmosphere "
Pumping mud is just eye wash to make it look like they are doing something , evidently from what I’ve read the last thing they want is to suddenly plug it, if they do , it will blow out farther down and the pressurized oil will just be more out of control, possibly making a relief well impossible
Yeah not only does it look like the pressure is starting to further crack the riser, but the flow is a little darker. Not a good sign.
I believe you described the next planned step.
Just read at the New Orleans newspaper site that they are going to be inserting tennis and golf balls as they are changing strategy.

People are expecting it to blow sky high from some of the comments. BP has by far the worst safety record of any oil company yet ZERO allowed them to stay in charge. Seems 97% of major safety violations belong to BP. That must have been some amount of money BP donated to Obama and the Democrats.
Why areent they setting it on fire?
