[history]
Reporting from Houma, La. Engineers have succeeded in stopping the flow of oil and gas into the Gulf of Mexico from a gushing BP well, the federal government's top oil spill commander, U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, said Thursday morning.

I understand that from reports on the actual law, but have not read the law myself. One thing we do know for certain is that Obama has been negligent and incompetent in the federal government’s responsibilities to mitigate the spill and clean it up.

Zero didn't "pull" anything and deserves no credit.
BP has been dragging it's feet trying to salvage the wellhead. So much for their "greener" initiatives.
I'm all for drilling everywhere we can. I'm also for holding those who have "accidents" responsible for cleaning up after themselves.

Fox News just now stated that the earlier reports of success were exaggerated. They are having some success, but the flow has not yet stopped.

Thanks! I think we had pretty much figured this out weeks ago but it is good to see that our speculation is being confirmed in actual testimony before congress.

SO FAR, BP estimates it has spent $800 MILLION on responding to the leak.
Regardless to all the talk, you are absolutely correct.
BP’s response has been amazing and their performance in this crisis has had no limit. They knew what to do, and they did it. In record time, and under conditions rarely experienced.

The best (unbiased, very knowledge based) source for info on the Deepwater Rig incident is here: http://www.theoildrum.com/node/6505
Yes, thank you. I've been reading everything there for a few days now.

If this has worked and I pray this is so, it will go down in history as one of the greatest engineering efforts since the Apollo 13 rescue. Not even close. NASA saved the Apollo 13 crew in a very short time ... this spill has been going on for over a month.

Grrrrr...thanks for the update! No problem. They just issued another announcement .... the flow may now be capped. Obviously a rapidly developing issue. Let's hope they didn't jump the gun this time and it is indeed capped.

Prepare for the Obama victory lap. That's right. Nothing happened until The Leader said, "Plug that damn leak." And then mud flowed and oil ceased to leak on the 37th day. And then obama rested and played golf instead of doing Memorial Day.

Well, you see, LAWYERS are experts at assigning BLAME and LIABILITY.
Experts in engineering and environmental science would have FIXED the problem.
