Obama Loses Border Battle

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has every right to celebrate the hard-won moral victory for her state.

Brewer stood up to the press, the open borders lobby, criticism from arrogant Obama administration officials who haven’t read the Arizona law, a lecturing President of Mexico and illegal alien protesters taking to the streets hurling threats and the dreaded “R” word at her. She has led the state of Arizona through the gauntlet and the moral victory is theirs.

Not that the Obama administration plans to do anything that would actually secure the border, but by announcing a deployment of “up to” 1,200 troops to somewhere in the near vicinity of the southern border region, the president has been forced into a political position of at least admitting there’s a problem -- and that the Arizona governor was right. hat's a small step in the right direction.

“My signing of Senate Bill 1070 has clearly ignited the talk of action in Washington for the people of Arizona and other border states,” Brewer said in a written statement. “I am anxious to hear of the details that have not yet been disclosed of where, how and for how long additional forces will be deployed.”

“With the accountability of this election year, I am pleased and grateful that at long last there has been a partial response from the Obama administration to my demands that Washington do its job,” Brewer added.

Gravitas.

According to the Associated Press, “The National Guard troops will work on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support, analysis and training, and support efforts to block drug trafficking. They will temporarily supplement border patrol agents until Customs and Border Protection can recruit and train additional officers and agents to serve on the border.”

Where have we heard that before?

Oh, I remember, it was the last time a President tried to hold border security hostage to amnesty, but was forced by public pressure to deploy troops anyway.

In 2006, President George W. Bush sent 6,000 National Guard troopsto the border -- but not really. Unarmed National Guard troops were deployed in support roles -- not actually at the border -- and not all at once. And the situation has gotten much worse. Americans have lost their lives. You can't take that back.

The border region will continue to deteriorate until sufficient resources are dedicated to securing America's international boundatry with Mexico -- currently under the operational control of narco-terrorists.

Arizona Sens. Jon Kyl and John McCain issued a joint statement in reaction to what they termed an insufficient deployment and made an announcement of their own: “We have been calling on President Obama to deploy National Guard troops to the border since March 2009 and are pleased he has finally started to recognize the essential needs of our Southwest states.

“Though this initial deployment is an important first step, the President is not sending enough troops. We believe it would be very helpful if the President could visit the Mexico-U.S. border so he could see firsthand the threat to the safety of Americans from illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and human smuggling. He could also personally witness the need for additional personnel, technology, and infrastructure necessary to secure to the border.

“In 2006, President Bush deployed 6,000 National Guard troops to the Southwest border. We believe the situation on the border is far worse today than it was then due to the escalating violence between the Mexican drug cartels and the Mexican government. For this reason, we need to deploy at least 6,000 National Guard troops to the border region. The fact that President Obama announced today that he will only be sending one-fifth of the troops we believe are required is a weak start and does not demonstrate an understanding of the current situation in the region.

“This morning, we proposed an amendment to fully fund 6,000 National Guard troops to be immediately deployed to the Southwest border and call on the President to support our amendment.”

The Israelis have put up a security wall that stands about 30 feet tall. It has been very effective in stopping terrorist attacks both by car and by foot. Think of what it could do for our illegal immigration problem and the Islamic terrorists coming across!

What if there was a private fund raising drive, (by FR?) that was tax-deductible, to finance the construction of a border wall like this? The funds that would be raised could be used to hire the Israeli firm that built the wall in Israel with the stipulation that they hire skilled Americans for its construction. This would rankle Obama like you wouldn't believe. And we'd need a few token illegal Mexicans to help build the wall so it would bring some irony to the whole story.

The routes they use are littered with Korans, prayer rugs, and other junk indicative of Islamists. The garden variety illegal Mexicans may be the LEAST of our immigration problems.

Incorrect. The National Guard units are STATE run entities. Up until the 1980’s, when President Reagan issued an EO changing the way things worked, the president had to ask permission from the governors to use them. Except when they are mobilized by the president, their commanders in chief is the governor of their respective states.

Lame. People like you want to give Sarah Palin credit for everything, just by her mere existence. Every day when the sun rises, you thank Sarah Palin for making it happen. Sorry, but Brewer is a very intelligent woman. I don’t think she needs or wants Palin “by her side.”

The truth is that Sarah Palin is by Juan McCain’s side as he demands “amnistía.”

Go to Brewer's site securetheborder.org and Palin is all over it.

Brewer and Palin - two strong women making a difference.

Don't confuse counterpunch with facts.

His brain works slowly this time of night.

Couple that with his latent PDS, and it is a deadly combination which removes all common-sense and objectivity.

Like I said, PDS.

A perfect example.

bwc2221 is right. Sarah was the first to support Governor Brewer and she was with her for the weekend the day after she signed the bill into law. In fact, I posted pics of the two of them from the Diamondback baseball game they attended together.

Sarah has since returned to support her close friend Jan. I guess counterpunch might have missed that widely televised news conference.

Sarah fully supports AZ law and her friend Jan Brewer, without reservation, and she's made that clear serveral times in every interview and presser she's given.

I might also add, that Sarah still remains the only voice speaking out for the girls basketball team from the Chicago area that's been forbidden to travel to AZ by the libtard school board.

Just because Sarah Palin shows up where ever there’s a camera, that doesn’t make her a leader.
She still endorsed Juan McCain over JD Hayworth, and has been campaigning and raising money for McCain.
Just as she endorsed FioRINO over DeVore.
So where it counts, Palin can’t be counted on.

The governors are in control of their units only in non- military useage. they can call out the guards for state emergencies. The big difference is that the weapons carries by national guard units are strickly controlled by the Federal goverment. The governor can order units to duty in the state but without weapons, for that he needs Federal permission. How does a governor protect a state with unarmed soldiers?
