With millions of gallons of crude oil wreaking havoc on the Gulf of Mexico, the White House announced today that President Barack Obama will assess the efforts to stop the massive oil leak... but not until after he hosts a fancy fundraiser... with wealthy oil heirs Ann and Gordon Getty in San Francisco this evening...
The events are scheduled to be held at the Fairmont Hotel, in the city's affluent Nob Hill district, and at the home of Ann and Gordon Getty, wealthy philanthropists who head their family's billion dollar trust.
The decision to raise campaign funds with Getty the heir to the multi-billion-dollar Getty Oil fortune draws even further attention to the Presidents misplaced priorities as he flies across the continent for a campaign fundraiser while a major man-made disaster damages the ecosystem and economy of the Gulf Coast...
"In the wake of this ongoing national crisis, why didnt the Democrats reschedule his fancy fundraiser with the billionaire oil heirs and allow the President to direct his full attention toward the massive disaster that is plaguing the Gulf Coast? asked National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokeswoman Amber Marchand.
I am anouncing myself totally available for adoption should they in turn be in need of an heir.
CAN YOU IMAGINE IF BUSH HAD DONE THIS?????
Well obviously this is Dick Cheney’s fault.
And the libs will love him more. We’re living on Bizarro World.
Gee suz Keerist, California tonight New Orleans Friday, Chicago saturday , do they refuel Air Force One in the friggin air?
This SOB doesnt let the damn tires cool off from one landing before he goes across country again.
What the hell does it cost to keep this Mother’s trucker flying around the nation every damned day?
This is silly. President Obama doesn’t know squat about capping underwater oil wells, and it won’t make a single gallon of difference whether he “assesses the efforts to stop the massive oil leak” today or a year from now. In fact, he’s more likely to run into somebody knowledgeable who can give him some crumb of useful advice on it at a fundraiser run by billionaire oil heirs, than sitting in the Oval Office listening to reports from government bureaucrats or wandering around the Gulf Coast in some orchestrated made-for-media-coverage show-and-tell tour (which I’m sure he’ll get around to doing very soon anyway).
Anotherwords, Governor Sarah Palin is right again!!
Another find rasier for the Spill baby spill party.
Decisions....decisions....priorities.....
Yes, that PhD he earned in petroleum engineering and his 35 years in the oil patch is finally going to come in handy. I'm sure he's the regular Marmaduke Surfaceblow of petroleum (ancient reference for power engineers out there).
As much as I hate Zero, thank you for expressing this, and they are my thoughts as well.
Exactly as my sentiments were after Katrina when the press were lambasting Bush for not visiting NOLA soon enough. Bush wasn't going to personally rebuild the levies or pump the water, so his presence wasn't going to make one bit of difference.
Sorry. It’s not just about stopping the leak.
It was about protecting the beaches beginning over a month ago.
It was about burning off the oil way back on DAY ONE.
IT’S NOT ABOUT THE SPILL, IT’S ABOUT THE CLEANUP
I agree. Obama should be under attack for not moving faster to help clean up the mess. Where is the equipment to help with the clean up? Why is the Army Corp of Engrs delaying building barriers to keep the oil out?
Obama’s role is a supporting role as janitor-in-chief. “Hey Obama - we have some oil we need you to clean up. So STFU, get out your broom and pail and get your ass moving.”
“allow the President to direct his full attention”
The brainwork and masterminding involved in solving such a serious problem requires every ounce of his considerable energy and IQ, so he must surround himself with obsequious, rich sycophants in order to charge his batteries, and then when he is finally ready, after feeling his powers are at their peak, possibly after relaxing to the soothing sounds of Paul McCartney and Wings, and Faith Hill who cried like a baby Hill about their beloved Mississippi following Katrina and the response of the administration, he may dive down and plug the leak himself, possibly revealing his secret identity, ZeroMan, and possibly straining his milk and irritating Bigfoot, thinking he was at that ghey `Frisco bath house and so forth and so on in this incredibly long run-on sentence.
Always putting politics over his responsibility to our nation. People are getting enraged over his seeming lack of concern over this oil disaster (even the libs are steaming over it!)
Uhbama likes to have his fun. He would make a SUPERB DICTATOR! Geeez. What a failure he is, poor fella. Amazingly stupid for someone with supposed degrees from ivy league phony education mills. I have never believed in guaranteed grades like they dole out at Harvard.
I’ll bet that a despised “big oil” man would have been a better option than a community organzer dealing with this mess.
Then again, maybe the mess wouldn’t have been this big if cleanup had begun sooner.
Actually, any Presidential visit to a disaster area of any sort is a major distraction and interference with real disaster relief efforts, so it does make a difference -- a *negative* difference. The last thing needed by anybody who's doing any serious work on either the oil well gusher itself or resulting environmental mess, is to be pulled away from their work for a pointless "briefing" of a visiting President (with or without photo op). And the last thing that anybody dealing with the supporting logistics needs, is to have to prepare for the super-high security of a Presidential visit -- hours of time wasted with Secret Service advance people who need to know every detail of every travel route, every building that will be visited, demand huge special support from local police, etc.
Some Presidential "see how much I really care" trips are harmless, such as Obama's recent participation in the memorial service for the dead miners. But having a President barge into a major disaster area is always harmful to the urgent work underway there.
If he can rub elbows with some oil industry big-wigs at the Gettys' fundraiser, at least there's a chance some tiny bit of real benefit would result. "Assessing the efforts to stop the massive oil leak", whether from the White House or in the disaster area itself, is nothing more than hot air, which he can just as easily blow by conference call from Air Force One on his way to or from the Getty event.
