After a conspicuous silence overnight in the wake of the Senate Armed Services Committee reaching a compromise on repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell, Defense Secretary Robert Gates weighs in today with a somewhat muted endorsement: he can live with it.
"Secretary Gates continues to believe that ideally the DOD review should be completed before there is any legislation to repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell law," Gates' spokesman Geoff Morrell emailed journalists this morning.

Gates doesn’t HAVE to live with it. Our troops DO!!
Gates is a sock puppet and will do whatever he is told to do.
I think Gates already may be living with it....snuggling up with Obama and all.
Gates is in lock step with Zer0 and has been from the start, worthless moron is appropriate for the turkey.
I wouldn’t doubt anything at this point.
He is a sock puppet.
If I walk into the women’s shower, will there be a sexual harassment complaint?
Let’s see what happens when the first openly homo troop walks into the men’s shower.
With all the stuff the Armed Forces have to deal with now they don’t need to be the department of social engineering.
Him and General Casey too.
Anyone know what the new policy is?
He is in lock step with whomever is boss is.
“Anyone know what the new policy is?”
Do Tail, i suppose
Traitor.
Say what you will about Colon Powell, when bubba admin enacted Don’t Ask Don’t Tell he resigned early rather than preside over the implementation.
While Powell has long ago turned traitor to the troops he did the right thing way back then.
Marine Commandant Conway recently asked a group of Marines gathered in Afghanistan their opinion on repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. He admitted that he was from another generation than they were, and he was seeking a more current reaction. The overwhelming response was along the lines of, “Somebody’s going to get hurt.”
BUMP
Something tells me that will be his last official act as SecDef. I suspect he is ready to get the heck out of Dodge.
Well, he WAS speaking to Marines which would explain a lot to me.
Uh, don’t go too hard on Gates.
This was not his call, and this statement gives him the option to control how far this goes. If he came out hard against it, he wouldn’t have any say in any future deliberations.
As it is, he said he’d like the internal policy review to continue, never mind the fact that Obama essentially cut him off at the knees.
