LAKEVILLE, Minn. - A second person has died in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in Lakeville that released a swarm of bees from a semi.
Two semi trucks, including one carrying millions of bees, and two cars collided on Interstate 35 late Monday morning . The driver of one of the cars died at the scene. The driver of the other car was airlifted to a hospital and died Monday evening.
The drivers killed in the crash have been identified as 24-year-old Kari Rasmussen of St. Anthony, Minn. and 50-year-old Pamela Brinkhaus of Elko, Minn.
Several first responders were stung by the bees released in the crash. Four hoses were used in an attempt to clear the scene of bees before specialists were called in.
Northbound I-35 was reopened around 7 p.m. Monday.
Our son tripped up on a nest walking backwards while caddying, and the amount of bees that stung him caused the caddy master to call for a ride home immediately, and off he went to the emergency room, where the docs were eventually scratching their heads as to how he could of had all these stings with no reaction whatsoever; no swelling, no redness. We never figured it out ... he was fortunate.
If they had smoke then the bees would have calmed right down.
This could be the beginning of a great disaster flick.

When I was in the army stationed in Germany 35 years ago my wife had a friendship with another American woman who was very allergic to bee stings. The local Army medical department refused to hold any special medication for her allergy, even after she pleaded with them and offered to pay for the medication herself. And the military wonders why some people don't want to stay in.
I have four or five of them.

The movie is set in Madison, Pennsylvania, in the summer of 1972. Vada Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky) is a 11-year-old tomboy and a hypochondriac. Vada’s father, Harry Sultenfuss (Dan Aykroyd), is an awkward widower who does not seem to understand his daughter, and as a result, constantly ignores her. His profession as a funeral director, in which the Sultenfuss’ residence is also a funeral parlor, has led Vada to develop an obsession with death as well as disease. Vada also thinks that she killed her own mother, since her mother died giving birth to her. She regularly tends to her invalid grandmother (Ann Nelson), who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Harry's brother Phil (Richard Masur), who lives nearby, also stops by frequently to help out the family.
Vada is teased by other girls because her best friend, Thomas J. Sennett (Macaulay Culkin), is unpopular and a boy. Their summer adventuresfrom first kiss to last farewellintroduce Vada to the world of adolescence.
Vada’s summer begins well. She befriends Shelley Devoto (Jamie Lee Curtis), the new make-up artist at her father's funeral parlor, who provides her with some much needed guidance. She is also infatuated with her teacher, Mr. Bixler (Griffin Dunne), and steals some money from Shelley's trailer to attend a summer writing class that he is teaching.
But before long, things start to fall apart. Her father and Shelley start dating and get engaged, she cannot bring herself to tell her father that she has experienced her first menstrual cycle, Thomas J. dies from an allergic reaction to bee stings while looking for Vada’s mood ring in the woods, and she finds out that Mr. Bixler is engaged to someone else.
Vada’s grief, however, manages to mend the rift between her and her father, she learns that she didn't kill her mom during childbirth (since her father tells her that things like mothers dying in childbirth just happen), and by the end of the movie, Vada has not only managed to deal with her pain and grief, but has also overcome some of her previous issues as well.

I remember a made-for-tv movie from about 1976 about killer bees singing lots of people. they got the bees trapped and took them to the New Orleans enclosed stadium where they cooled them down to make them dormant.
If they had smoke then the bees would have calmed right down.”
But they would have to wait for a permit from EPA to release smoke into the atmosphere - otherwise they would have been fined for polluting.
