(Day 36 - The Gulf Held Hostage) Obama to Aide: 'Plug the Damn Hole'
AP | Tuesday, May 25, 2010 | AP

Posted on 05/25/2010 8:13:35 AM PDT by kristinn

Oil spill frustration is rampant.

The White House is being pounded for not acting more aggressively in the month-old oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The administration is hitting back, mostly at BP. Louisiana is threatening to take matters into its own hands. The truth is, the government has little direct experience at either the national or state level at stopping deepwater oil leaks - and few realistic options.

"[T]o those tasked with keeping the president apprised of the disaster," the Washington Post reported, "Obama's clenched jaw is becoming an increasingly familiar sight. During one of those sessions in the Oval Office the first week after the spill, a president who rarely vents his frustration cut his aides short, according to one who was there. 'Plug the damn hole,' Obama told them."

At the moment, “plug the damn hole” seems to have joined “trisect an angle” and square a circle” as impossible tasks.

(Geometry geeks will understand.)

Leadership means recognizing when you need help and aligning the right things/people to solve problems....The Obomba is not able to do that....he’s a narcissist....plus this really is not an “community organizing” problem...that’s where HIS expertise lies....

There’s a difference between being out in front of a situation, even when there’s little that can be done, and being seen as complacent and aloof. Obama has been a no show in this disaster. And it’s showing in his polling numbers.

So the govt doesn’t have the expertise to do this? and that is an excuse? What expertise do they have to run the health care system?

As I remember, the federal government has been collecting fees/taxes from oil companies drilling in the Gulf to build a fund for cleanup of massive spills.

The problem: they spent the money on other stuff. They never got around to buying the equipment they would need to respond.

I wish there was a way to make this more widely known.

Wow! For a guy who was “the one we were waiting for”, who could - with the wave of his hand - lower sea levels, or by simply giving a speech lower the global temperatures, all while providing us with healthcare (or at least give us a pain pill), he sure is getting angrily frustrated with a plumbing problem! Once the oil hits, maybe New Orleans with become a chocolate-covered-looking city after all!

He is a King Louie held hostage by his useless court. If he shows any sympathy or empathy with the “bitter clingers” outside of the Blue country heartland (a few zipcodes at best) his real supporters threaten obliquely to leave him.
