~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort Carson, Colorado

Fort Carson is a United States Army installation located immediately south of Colorado Springs, primarily in El Paso County, Colorado.

Fort Carson is the home of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Brigade Combat Teams of the 4th Infantry Division, the 10th Special Forces Group, the 71st Ordnance Group (EOD), the 4th Engineer Battalion, the 759th Military Police Battalion, the 10th Combat Support Hospital, and the 43rd Sustainment Brigade. The post also hosts units of the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve and the Colorado Army National Guard.

Fort Carson was established in 1942, following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. The city of Colorado Springs, Colorado purchased land south of the city and donated it to the War Department. Construction began immediately and the first building, the camp headquarters, was completed January 31, 1942. Camp Carson was named in honor of the legendary Army scout, General Christopher "Kit" Carson, who explored much of the West in the 1800s.

During World War II, a total of 104,165 soldiers trained at Camp Carson. Along with three other infantry divisions- the 71st, 104th and l0th Mountain -more than 125 units were activated at Camp Carson and over 100 other units were transferred to the Mountain Post from other installations.

The camp trained nurses, cooks, mule packers, tank battalions, a Greek infantry battalion and an Italian ordnance company-soldiers of any and every variety. Toward the end of the war, after the departure of the divisions and established units, Camp Carson trained replacement troops and provisional companies.

Fort Carson houses the 3 Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR), 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division (ID), 43 ASG, and 10 Special Forces (SF). As a result, the Base has several vehicle maintenance facilities for tanks and other tracked and wheeled vehicles. A complete tank engine depot maintenance and dynamometer testing facility is also located at Fort Carson. The Butts Army Air Field (AAF) is an active runway and hangar facility used primarily by Army rotary-wing aircraft.

Fort Carson military operations and tenant activities include: the Army and Air Force Exchange (AAFES); Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office (DRMO); Pacific Architects and Engineers (PAE) (which provide operations and maintenance support to the installation); a medical detachment (MEDDAC); dental activity (DENTAC); the Colorado Air National Guard, Explosive Ordnance Detachment (EOD); and Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees).

The Mission Statement at Fort Carson is “Fort Carson’s Mountain Post Team—best opportunity in the Army for soldiers to train, leaders to lead, families to grow and people to work. We are a first rate power projection platform (air and rail) and Post Mobilization Maneuver Training Center; a premier installation and committed community partner, providing combat-ready forces for the 21st Century.”

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION

The light of God surround you
The love of God enfold you
The power of God protect you
The presence of God watch over you
Wherever you are, God is,
And all is well.
Amen.

BLESS THIS HOUSE
 Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Evening, Ladies!!

FYI, I work for a Public School District here in Oregon, and this afternoon, an Army Recruiter, a young Staff Sargeant, came by our office to ask where he was to set up his annual recruiting station,(they set-up a portable rock-climbing structure in the parking lot, and talk to teens that are graduating from high-school).

Anyway, I gave him instructions, we exchanged war stories (LOL), and then I told him: Sargeant, are you aware of all the anti-Military literature that is available to students in the "resource center"?

The Sargeant replied: Sir, we know all about that crap, we just wish they wouldn't lie about us.

We shook hands and he left.

No rain here either...just wind kicking the h*ll outta me and the allergies. Regarding your above post...I’m sure every high school in this country has the same negative literature regarding our military! Makes me sick! Other than that...I’m doing just great...lol.

Lovely, Lauren!

I visited Crazy Horse, a school mate and crewmate from our years together in the zone, after separation long ago. That reunion was up (and I mean 'way up') in Gunnison.

Anyways to make a short story long....we headed out into the wilds to do a little fishing on a stream in the middle of nowhere about a two mile hike from the car. Great fishing spot, great view and a great time. Four nice trout and a little hike to supper.

Then he said, 'Look around. What if you were a Pony Express rider out here a century ago and looked up to the ridge and saw a band of Indians. Where would you go?'

Didn't have a snappy come back for that one.

Busy, busy day...my cubbie mate has some medical issues and is at appointments each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. Today they gave her some sort of meds that made her fall asleep. She barely got home, having nodded off a couple times while driving (I will chastise her tomorrow about not calling for a ride) Knowing she wouldn’t be in, I got into her computer and printed off a bunch of Monday “stuff”, so I’m a bit behind....working on that now.

Hope your day was good. *HUGS*

It's a small school district in primarily, a logging town, and they usually recruit more kids here than in the surrounding larger cities!

Good kids here!

Aloha Teenster!

A sun shiny Monday after two day of rain...and a day for chores, never ending chores.

I can balance my checkbook in five minutes...but the gov't can't do it in fifty years.
