Clinton: Koreas security situation 'precarious'
By MATTHEW LEE (AP)
BEIJING U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that North Korea's sinking of a South Korean warship has created a "highly precarious" security situation in the region and that the Obama administration is working to prevent an escalation of tension that could lead to conflict.
Speaking to reporters in Beijing shortly after the White House issued a statement offering Washington's full and unequivocal support for Seoul, Clinton said all of North Korea's neighbors, including its chief ally China, understand the seriousness of the matter and want to "contain" it.
"We are working hard to avoid an escalation of belligerence and provocation," Clinton said. "This is a highly precarious situation that the North Koreans have caused in the region."
The U.S. will work with other nations to see that North Korea feels the consequences of its actions and changes its behavior to avoid "the kind of escalation that would be very regrettable," she said.
Clinton would not discuss the details of what the United States might do but noted that President Barack Obama had ordered U.S. military commanders to "to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression" from North Korea. The United States has 28,500 troops in South Korea.

Send Roger in!
I’m confident that a few “Let me be clear” statements from Clinton and Obama will fix things right up.
Roger Rocks North Korea
"Roger Clinton, everybody's favorite presidential half-brother/R&B singer, will be rocking in North Korea next month. He will be among the performers at an event dubbed 'The 2000 Peace and Friendship Concert,' to be held in the capital of Pyongyang" (Washington Post, November 27, 1999).
Clinton will be joined by considered to be teenage pop stars from South Korea along with North Korean performers, according to the Seoul-based promoter Korecom" (Washington Post, November 27, 1999).
"The free concert will be taped and aired at a later date on South Korean television. It is considered significant because the two Koreas have technically been at war with each other since 1950, and visits between citizens of either nation are extremely rare" (Washington Post, November 27, 1999).
"Clinton's musical career received a boost in 1992 when his older brother, an amateur saxophonist, was elected to the Oval Office. He made a splash during the inaugural festivities, memorably performing a ballad with pop divas En Vogue" (Washington Post, November 27, 1999).
He has previously performed in South Korea to promote better relations between the United States and that country" (Washington Post, November 27, 1999).

It will get worse when this Administration gets involved. This could blow up real fast if not handled right. Just what the enemies of this country wants. Iraq War, Afghanistan War, possible Iran War and now, possible, N. Korean War. We need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and regroup. We are stretched to the limit. If all hell breaks out in N. Korea, we will surely see a draft. At that point, the people will turn against Washington in huge numbers and, most likely, call for the removal of our dear leader.

More likely he will ask SK to apologize and give NK more money.
"North Korea invites Roger Clinton to sing"
If Obama didn’t sound and look so weak it wouldn’t be so bad. They just made the North more emboldened.
I guess someone finally explained to zero that if you don’t respond to the sinking forcefully but just tell the South Koreans to eat it, that South Korea, Japan and Taiwan will all go nuclear within the year. This zero is really dumb and slow. A punk named chia pet calls him a pussy by sinking an allied ship and bammy doesn’t even know he is being called out. What a putz.
Democrats do love drafting slaves.
I oppose it no matter what. I hope people would oppose it violently.
Is this satire?
Clintons visit to get those two Gore employees released was a huge win for chia head. To get this latest event just furthers Chia’s power position.
We need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and regroup.
My take is we need to get out of Europe. A more useless collection of “so-called” allies you could not find.
Because of the limp wristed Kenyan in the W.H.
Don't worry,, B. H. O. will promise them many rich's to hold off under the table. I would not be supprised to learn that Obama asked N.K to do this so he could look like a negotiator while paying them millions $$$$$$
I put nothing past the communist in the W.H.!
Its interesting that the only people BO will be ‘firm’ with is American citizens. Mostly those right wing bible thumpers of course.
This may be a turn for the worse, but North Korea requires a constant state of war or near war. Read 1984 (George Orwell was brilliant). That’s how they keep the proles in line and justify deprivation. A hungry prole is incapable of fomenting rebellion. I highly doubt the N. Korea leadership wants a full-scale conflict, as that would threaten their regime.
Just give him time, his staff is probably loading the teleprompter with the appropriate apologies and admissions that “America is a bad place” speeches even as we speak.
When he has again traveled the world and told everyone “everything is America’s fault” all will be well in the world again.
I mean really, look how well it has worked in the past.
