Dr. Rand Paul was hoping for a “honeymoon” after his thumping victory in the Republican U.S. Senate primary in Kentucky. No such luck. Dr. Paul is a conservative Christian and if he wants a another honeymoon, he needs to talk to his wife.
Instead, what Rand Paul got was a grilling from one end of the chattering class to the other about his supposed opposition to the great Civil Rights Act of 1964. It is a fact that he stumbled in some of his answers to questions about individual titles of that act. Dr. Paul was not alive when the act was debated in front of the whole country in 1964. He needs to bone up on his history.
But the high tech lynching that is taking place now is of a piece with what the liberal media put Clarence Thomas through in 1991. Because Judge Thomas is an original construction jurist, he was seen as a threat by liberal activists. Because Justice Thomas is black, he is vilified by leftists who believe that all minorities must support their left wing causes. (snip)
Rand Paul is right to say that slavery and segregation were stains ... we overcame because conservative Republicans joined with liberal Democrats to pass the great Civil Rights Act of 1964.
President Lyndon Johnson was the first one to recognize the crucial role played by that proud Lincoln Republican, Sen. Everett McKinley Dirksen of Illinois. He gave a signing pen to the powerful Senate Minority Leader who provided the critical votes to break a filibuster engaged in by Democrats.
The liberal media is trying to sandblast Ev Dirksen’s name from the Senate Office Building named for him. We can’t let them do it. And helping Rand Paul is one way to stop the left from re-writing history.

Rand Paul should have known better. That was a really, really, really, really STUPID move on his part.
It’s great that Blackwell is carrying his water, but conservative candidates need to get unstuck from stupid.
Paul will win Kentucky. This may hurt him if he was running in MA, or WA, but he isn’t.
And his answers to questions were not stumbles. They were right on. They just don’t sound like good answers to an IQ 80 liberal that focuses on sound bites. I agree with all of his answers. His crime was saying them in front of people that cannot comprehend the specific issues, from a constitutional perspective, that he was addressing.
IOW, he showed a Palin-like lack of experience with a shark media. Like Palin, he can learn from this and do much better next time.
It’s not a lynching when you grasp the rope and put your own neck in the noose. The attempts to excuse Paul and shrug off his self-inflicted wounds are just sad.
As for making GOP candidates look bad, thank Rand Paul for that too. He taints them all. Rand Paul is the best news the dems have had since Obama won.
Yes, Rand Paul needs to get out of the philosophical classroom and get into the reality of a campaign. While we conservatives all agree that private property rights are sacrosanct, we shouldn’t be engaged in some philosophical connundrum about whether people can make up any rule as they please on their own property. I can’t rape or murder at my own personal place of business. I can’t disriminate on the basis of race at my own personal place of business either. Period!!!
Absolutely it was STUPID by Paul. But I would suggest that Steele’s reaction to this in the media (just like he has responded to other MSM-created stories on Rush or any racial issue) is equally STUPID by Steele.
IMHO, this is a MSM ‘gotcha’ event. Yes, Rand Paul was STUPID and completely ignorant in such a media setting. He misspoke, in the true sense of the word (unlike Blumenthal). He was inarticulate. It is a shame that the choice in KY was between a libertarian political amateur and an establishment country club elitist professional politician who embodied the term RINO. So we’re left with Rand. Hopefully, his ‘handlers’ will educate him quickly.
When asked about whether he supports the 1964 civil rights act, he should have responded angrily with a ‘Yes’ and went on the attack. He should have questioned the reporter if they ever thought to ask Bill Clinton about it since his mentor was Sam Fulbright who fillibustered it. He could then go on to ask if they ever brought this up to Al Gore whose father also fillibustered it.

My gosh, look around you! The Civil Rights movement was about equal rights!!! It has morphed in to special rights, not equal rights!!
It is right to stand up for the right of free association. A business owner does have the right to deny service to anyone for any reason, even superficial ones. It is generally stupid business to do it, but you have a right to be stupid.
But we have an evil nanny state that violates rights in search of some mythical “equality” that over time destroys freedom and liberty.
Equality is a myth. The only thing the government is supposed to ensure is equal treatment under the law. For instance, rich murderers are supposed to be treated the same as poor murderers.
But in a country where Congress exempts itself from the laws and tax cheats exempt themselves from the taxation (slavery) but then run the treasury, you have fundamental problems.
Rand Paul blew this and whining about being a victim won’t help him. Did he really think MSNBC Maddow was his friend, or even unbiased? Maybe he should have watched the show before hand to get prepared. If anything he set back the cause of limiting federal power with this. He had to cancel NBC Meet the Press and go into hiding after many seemingly contradictory statements as fire control.
I noticed him and Ron Paul were going on MSNBC alot. Well guess what? They will only treat you OK if you further their agenda and that is a more powerful federal government.

I didn’t say I don’t agree with what he said re: civil rights act.
I said what he DID was stupid — that is, to go on that commie lezbo’s teevee show and babble himself into a corner. THAT was STUPID.
Blackwell was my strong choice for RNC chair, and I agree with your observation here....he would have been a great choice. Sad to see the RNC insiders have their guns constantly pointed at their own feet.
This guy is not ready for prime time. Conservatives should remember that not *any* conservative is preferred over RINOs. The father was outright anti-semitist and racists who want to surrender to islamo-fascists and I’m getting the feeling that the son is just like the father. I would not be surprised to find him in some 9/11 truther forum, along his daddy.
No sane politician would go to some fringe-left media outlet that has approximately 27 viewers.
I think this race will tighten up, but Rand Paul is still in the driver’s seat. The Democrats had a contentious and divided primary of their own and Conway starts way behind in the polls. At the end of the day, attacking Paul for alleged hostility to civil rights (i.e. racism) isn’t a winning strategy in a state like Kentucky. Conway was already going to overwhelmingly win the black vote (primarily in Louisville and Lexington) anyway. Black voters only make up around 11% of the vote statewide. John McCain won 63% of the white vote in 2008 in Kentucky, including 37% of white Democrats and 61% of white independents.
