Gun owners should thank 'embarrassing' Mayor Daley
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 23 May, 2010 | David Codrea

I no sooner get done outlining reasons why gun owners should thank Mexican President Felipe Calderon for his anti-gun miscalculation when Chicago's top hoplophobe, Richard M. Daley gives us new cause to rejoice in the backfiring antics of our enemies: The class act offered to stick a rifle with a bayonet up the rear end of a reporter.

As Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass notes, the mayor has embarrassed himself and the city. If I would quibble it would be to suggest Daley is, without question, an embarrassment, but his combative reaction to those marveling at his buffoonery shows him incapable of the embarrassment a non-sociopath would feel.

If you haven't watched the exchange that started this, here it is:

From Mike Dumke, the prospective recipient of Daley's...uh...cheeky offer:

Daley went on. “This gun saved many lives—it could save your life,” he said—meaning, I think, that getting that gun off the street might have saved many lives, including mine.

...“Next will be hand grenades, right? We’ll say that hand grenades are OK. I mean, how far can you go in regards to mass weapons? To me, any gun taken off saves thousands of lives in America."

The guy is delusional. But we should thank him for his public breakdown, where that has become apparent to all but his fellow delusional zealots, who are likewise oblivious to when they're embarrassing themselves.

Like the Brady Center's Dennis Henigan, who says "On guns, Calderon spoke for all of us"...

Sure he did, Dennis. Sure he did.

And thanks.

I’m just blown away by the arrogance out of Chicago. I’m starting to think that Chi-town takes the title from New Yawk for Most Blusteringly Arrogant Liberal City.

It’s not only obvious that Daley has no idea how to handle a weapon, but he pointed one at a reporter in much the same way the gangbangers who are protected by Chicago’s guns laws would do when committing a crime.

If you really believe that Mayor Daley, then take the first steps to leading in this "fight". First you need to ban guns from all the security details that guard you. None of them can have so much as a pocketknife on them while guarding you. Next, you need to take the guns away from all the police force in Chicago. This should be a good first step in getting more guns off the streets of Chicago and making the city safer...... right?

Exactly. He’s a hypocrite. One of the reporters should have asked him about the firearms his own personal security officers carry.

Remember, folks, self-defense is a right reserved only for the politicians, celebrities and other privileged classes. The average man on the street? Subhuman scum that exists only to be manipulated and exploited. That’s liberal thinking 101.

Like any dictator, King Richard wants to impose oppressive (and unconstitutional) rules on all the little people, and the rules don’t apply to him. The Second Amendment does not decree that the only arms to be borne are those of government agents.

What's the difference? Bloomberg only lets the well-connected have guns too. The downside is, because NYC actually has provisions to gun ownership (though most applications are denied), they probably won't be affected by the Supreme Court ruling unless the verdict paints a broad brush against may-issue laws.

What is the matter with Chigagoans to keep electing a dolt like this?

Well, when you lose in the debate on ideas all you have left is hyperbole. Progressives always lose when ideas are debated.
