Democrats give Poizner boost in governor race

If Steve Poizner upsets Meg Whitmanin the GOP side of the June 8 governor's primary, he can thank Democrats.

The California Democratic Party and major labor unions have joined Poizner in attacking Whitman. The CDP is spending $1.8 million on its anti-Whitman television ad and the California Labor Federation has deployed 25,000 volunteers to campaign against Whitman.

CDP and big labor think expected Democratic nominee Jerry Brown will have an easier time beating Poizner. Indeed, Brown leads Poizner 45 percent to 32 percent, while his lead over Whitman is a narrower 42 percent to 37 percent, according to the latest poll by the Public Policy Institute of California.

Officials with the Democratic Party and with unions have not said the strategy is to help Poizner, simply stating that they want to help counter Whitman's big head start in campaign advertising. But it's no secret they would rather face Poizner than Whitman.

I’d vote for Nut-Meg only if she secures the nomination. I’d never vote for her in a primary.

Poizner wants to eliminate the 2/3 vote to raise taxes; a goal consistent with dems, got. unions, etc.

Whitman strongly opposes this change.

This race sucks on so many issues, but eliminating the 2/3 vote is a big issue for me.

“This race sucks on so many issues, but eliminating the 2/3 vote is a big issue for me.”

The goal for conservatives SHOULD BE to get the most conservative governor, from the available choices.

I studied policy positions for both, and this one stands out separating these two; Poizner doesn’t like Prop. 13, or the 2/3 vote to raise taxes, and Whitman stand firm for retaining 2/3.

Whitman’s stands on illegal immigration appear more firm, as well, including her statement opposing amnesty of any kind.

I expect Brown to win. I may have to shoot myself after that.

We Conservative Californians are doomed.

Nah. He will just raise taxes. You can bank on it. See todays Sacramento Bee for the tax increases that would be rubber stamped. I won’t even be able to drink myself into a stupor (because of an increase in the taxes on alcoholic beverages) once he is elected.
