Sex-obsessed culture, lack of social services blamed for human trafficking at Fort Worth forum

FORT WORTH – An increasingly sexualized consumer society and inadequate funding for social services are major reasons why more young girls are being pressed into sexual slavery, a human-trafficking expert told a Fort Worth audience Thursday.

Fishnet-clad dolls, "porn star" T-shirts, Juicy brand jeans and the mainstreaming of the word "pimp" all are signs of "demonic forces" at work in American culture, said Alesia Adams, the Salvation Army's Atlanta-based human trafficking coordinator. Adams spoke at a forum on the subject at the Salvation Army's Fort Worth offices.

"I don't want my granddaughter playing with a doll with hooker heels," she said.

Adams also criticized what she called a shortage of social services to help desperate young people who might be lured into a life of sex.

"There are more services for animals than for child victims of abuse," she said.

Texas is a hub for human sex trafficking, said Kathleen Murray, the Fort Worth Police Department's trafficking coordinator. She estimated that 20 percent of all human trafficking in the United States comes through Texas at some point.

"These cases are within our reach," she said. "That's a huge responsibility for Texas."

The State Department estimates that 300,000 children, mostly runaways, are exploited in the United States each year, Murray said.

Experts at Thursday's forum said that no reliable estimates exist for the amount of local sex trafficking.

But they said the National Human Trafficking Hotline receives more calls from Texas than from any other state, and 15 percent of those are from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

We've had what, something like $6 Trillion worth of social services since the Great Society. If that's the answer, how did our moral deterioration accelerate?

Lib logic: it didn't work because we need more of what didn't work.

You neglect to consider that many schools now are run solely by teachers and administrators who have been trained under the communist system forced on states by the department of Education, and many were schooled in teacher colleges where communist socialist Herbert Marcuse and his ‘new school’ programs were used.

So you have free traitors (borderless world people) who say trading anything is good, including humans and slave labor, and communist socialists tearing down the family in the schools, you get the ruin of the United States of America.

Parents don’t have a prayer these days and that is a result of all of the above.

>Or how about parenting? Parenting is horrible these days.

Yeah. I think that’s, at least partially, due to the aversion to discipline/punishment [especially corporal] that a large chunk of society seems to have.

"How about citing a lack of moral foundation coupled with the lack of perception of any human dignity?"
Don't go forcing your morals on "Infants in the womb killers" aka pro choicers.

You are expecting too much from them. Any sin after that just kinda pales in comparison.

I didn't see a sarc-tag, but I'm fairly sure you meant it that way; either way, however, I would argue that the pro-choice movement stems exactly from the stated lack-of-moral-foundation & human-dignity [or, at least the acknowledgment thereof].

This post deals with how philosophy & ideologies are actuated; and therefore, it deals with the nitty-gritty of everyday life.

You apparently haven’t read up on CAFTA.

Many analysis said that if we make the Dominican republic a “free trade” partner, it would bring human trafficking right into the USA.

The point being is our country is in the shape it is for a reason. We can trace many of todays problems back to the 50s and 60s.
