Police officer slain as mayor embarrasses himself and city
The Chicago Tribune ^ | 5-21-2010 | John Kass

In anti-handgun Chicago, criminals aren't bothered by Mayor Richard Daley's handgun ban. They haven't been bothered for years.

And so another Chicago police officer was shot to death. But it wasn't during a traffic stop or some hunt through an alley after a drug sting.

Thomas Wortham IV, 30, was a victim of a robbery, shot down outside his boyhood home in the staunchly middle-class Chatham neighborhood, his body dragged 100 feet or so by the getaway car.

Daley’s Comment

A new low, even for a scumbag like Shortshanks. The reporter asking this question ought to be ashamed. Shortshanks though, has no sense of shame. Using an Officer’s death to further a political agenda?

* Asked whether Wortham’s death provides a boost for the city’s battle for what he calls “commonsense gun laws,” the mayor said: “Oh, I hope so. . . . Here’s a young man [who] served twice in Iraq. Father’s a police officer, an unbelievable police officer. You better believe it. It does add [momentum], and it should. It should wake up America.”

Let’s just point out that even with the handgun ban in effect, Chicago’s murder rate has remained higher than the national average for years and is climbing again.

And it would be pretty safe to assume that the gun that killed Officer Wortham IV wasn’t legally purchased, wouldn’t have been registered even if it was, and the person carrying it wouldn’t have had either an FOID card or any so-called “liability” insurance.

And finally, let’s remind everyone that the only two legal and registered handguns on the scene were the handguns that provided retired Sgt. Wortham a small measure of vengeance for his murdered son - and most likely, the service revolver is the one Daley didn’t want him to ever be able to register upon his retirement.

Let us bury our brother in peace Mayor Daley. Then you can rot in hell for your part in turning this city over to the scum, dregs and non-contributing members of society who are given free rein to kill a man who served his country, wished to serve his city and worked tirelessly to better his community.

At that moment, Mayor Daley was holding a news conference, another dog-and-pony show at City Hall to demonstrate his tough stance on crime. He called it to express his concern that the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn the city's handgun ban. There were guns on a table as props, so much eye candy for the cameras. A reporter asked the obvious question: Given the numbers of shootings in the city, isn't the handgun ban ineffective? The question was more than fair. In Chicago, the only people who are confident in their 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms are the criminals, the cops and the politicians. Law-abiding citizens can't own handguns. They don't have an army of bodyguards, as does Daley. Political hacks have guns. They get out the vote for his machine. And the retired neighbor who's never been arrested in his life? Oh, no. If he has a gun, it would be anarchy in the streets, according to Daley.

Thanks.

I should really learn not to read this crap so early in the morning. It just pisses me off and sets my day on a spiral.

Ironically and it is hard to say this, but his admin is about the only thing standing between Chicago being Detroit on Lake Michigan. Of course it is a ponzi scheme built up in the cheap credit big spending era, but it could be a lot worse.

"But he had to come home to Chicago to get shot down." Home to Chicago, the anti-handgun city, where the thugs don't worry much about what the mayor has to say.

I can't add anything more tragic to say. Unless that is they are plenty of politicians across this country that agree the mayor.

Confronted with a logical question, here's what the mayor did: He picked up a rifle from the prop table of guns, raised it and began to babble. "It's been very effective," said Daley of the handgun ban. "If I put this up your butt, you'll find out how effective it is. Let me put a round up your, you know what.

Inbreeding sometimes does terrible things to one's mind.

Good to know. Can’t wait to see it crash and burn. It’s obviously a very horrible, immoral place. The citizens are fools to elect someone so obviously derranged, and are merely avoiding dealing with the problems. Look where are current national nightmare began: Chicago. It gave us Rahm and his Obama, and Axelrod, etc.

You couldn’t pay me to live there. It will be one of the very worst killing zones in the USA when the inevitable happens. God bless the innocent living there, but it’s like being a Rhodesian who stayed in Zimbabwe. Why?

Daley dishonored the life of the murdered police officer.

Daley dishonored all the law abiding citizens in his state who live in fear of the thugs controlling their neighborhoods.

Here is some real information on the case.

The victim’s Dad, a retired police officer w/gun, returns
fire hitting two.

Where Daly enters into THIS case is a mystery to me. Surely the author could find a better case in point. The victims here were well armed or should have been with no restrictions from any Daly gun policy.

Yes and no, the Daley regime made it safe for the SWPL white effite liberal set to live in Chicago, and hence they brought their economic productivity to his city, but like the national economy it is built on the sand of debt. When the kook rants on guns he is not ranting about some downstate Bubba goin on a killing spree he is addressing the fears of the SWPLs and their fear of minority underclass crime. So to them Daley is not deranged, he is their protector and made Chicago a safe haven for the young affluent white lib. I do agree Chicago will be a dystopic killing field. When Daley came into power the black aldermen of the time were in the employ of the black drug gangs, even Jesse Jackson, the whites won’t forget that Daley rid Chicago of those Mugabes.

Wrong he saved Chicago from the Mugabes. Even we in the ISRA can agree he has saved Chicago from joining Detroit. Yes he is madman thug but without his hold on power, Chicago would be a caucasionfrei zone of putrid hatred (not excusing the racial politics of the whites). When he dies I put it at a 50/50 that the city burns.
