WASHINGTON Representative Barney Frank has vowed to keep transgender rights in his bill to protect gays and lesbians in the workplace, despite opposition from some key moderates that could derail the proposal.
For decades, the Newton Democrat has led congressional efforts to help gay workers, and three years ago he similarly included transgender rights in the Employment Nondiscrimination Act. But he wound up removing that provision in order to get the legislation passed in the House, a move that divided the gay rights community. That bill died in the Senate.
Now Frank says he will keep transgender rights in the current bill, and gay rights activists appear united in support.
But some Republicans say they would back the legislation only if the transgender rights portion is dropped.
If you include transgender rights, I think that just pushes the envelope too far, said Representative John Campbell of California, a Republican who voted for Franks bill in 2007. It is seen by the populace as a very extreme procedure.
Campbell is not the only previous supporter to object. Republican Representatives Jeff Flake of Arizona, Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, and Jim Gerlach of Pennsylvania also say they dont support the current version because it includes transgender rights. Also, some moderate Democrats have expressed concerns about voting on the transgender provision with the midterm elections approaching.

Get outta here, Frankfurter!!!
It would be so much easier if they would just seek psychological/psychiatric help.
The Republican candidate for Lt. Governor in MA is pushing a bill that would fine my mother $2,500 and jail her for a year if she complains about a guy in a dress being in the Ladies Room.
Women with Weiners Bill!!
This country is pretty messed up!
Three guesses, and the first two don't count...
Why single out one more sick bunch to give them legitimacy? Our cities are suffering from the sickness of political correctness....night lights embracing the cross-dresser, sexual deviant, pimps pushing under age and over aged women, sexual abuse in full bloom.....Holland? No...soon to be anytown USA with the full approval of Barney Frank, INC.
Name! Give us the Name Please.
In the healthcare bill, education section, billions are earmarked for education with preferences for minority, disadvantaged and underrepresented groups. Im gonna assume transgendered fall in that group.
From now on, any application you fill out that good old ‘other’ box should be checked, and put ‘transgendered, and if I’m really in a bad mood, Ill put transracial’.
Who knows what I’m gonna feel like when I wake up? today I fell like a woman, but maybe tomorrow, who knows? and with all the sympathy around for minorities, today I feel like a spanish person, or a black person. How will they prove Im not transgendered? (the transracial thing will be a little harder).
Apparently, Gays and Lesbians aren’t freaky enough anymore so Barney has to scrape really hard at the bottom of the Depravity Barrel.
But, if they did that,
they wouldn’t be able to impose their perversion
on the rest of normal society that recognizes their
deviancy.
I’ll not support any Republican that signs on to this liberty infringing bill that writes political correctness into law.

“Also, some moderate Democrats have expressed concerns about voting on the transgender provision with the midterm elections approaching.”
So they’ll won’t vote for it now but will wait until January.
Hypocritical, oxymoronic Dimrats (yes, I know that is a triple negative)
There are two cross-dressers that show up at a local nightclub from time to time, and it’s obvious that they’re crazy. I guarantee that they’ve got particular prescriptions that they take (and that’s not knocking the prescriptions or others that take them).
When you actually observe these people, you see psychopaths.
All women are exposed to danger, not only from confused men, but those who would dress that way with the express purpose of committing an easy sexual assault in the ladies’ restroom.
They are correct.
That is why the only way to defeat the Progressives is to eschew all fear. Stop being afraid. Go on the offensive, and tell the world just what America's domestic enemies are up to: the destruction of our nation's moral character, its Constitutional limits on government, and its free enterprise system. What good is political office to a man who lacks conviction or refuses to stand upon it?
