The stranger than truth files bite McCain (MCCAIN WILL BACK AMNESTY AFTER SW BORDER 'SECURED')
ABC News / GOPUSA ^ | 2010-05-20

From ABC News...

(snip)

"McCain was supportive of the Dream Act in the past... we saw him as a champion in some ways, and we hope that comes back," said Abdollahi.

Now the next paragraph is the money paragraph and I certainly hope Arizona voters are paying attention. McCain has been on all sides of this issue and now that he is facing reelection he is trying to convince voters that he will protect the borders. Let's see what he says when under pressure from the left.

A McCain spokesperson told ABC News the senator will support the so-called "Dream Act" as part of comprehensive immigration legislation but only after the Southwest border with Mexico is "secured."

We differ rintense, in that I don’t think a lot of them need or desire to be “citizens.”

I wouldn’t mind granting work cards that expire every 2 years that have to be renewed, which would include thorough background checks.

Work cards would be granted only to those who have never received welfare, never had any arrests, criminal records, etc., and only to those who are proficient in English.

Citizenship must be held in high regard and resevered for those who are willing to forsake their home country.

Mexico allows dual citizenship.

I could get on board with that if there were very tight restrictions and enforcement on it. I mean, look where we are today. But there are issues with it, meaning basic services, etc. Who pays for them when they’re sick? When they crash a car and kill someone? Etc.

I would add, the work card line needs to be outside the country, and they need to get in the back of that line, else it's still an amnesty.

Exactly. There’s problems with all the proposed solutions. The same apply when they’re on probation to citizenship, etc. I think we’d have to require them to insure themselves like we do, but then we’re into driver’s licenses...but again, we’d need a separate driver’s license for a “documented worker” and at the time of issuance, insurance would have to be part of the fee.

You just eliminated 98% of our 20 million illegals...

You want it? You got it!

It sounds cruel (well, to liberals), but I’d put a tracking program in place that would rival the way FedEx and UPS keep track of packages.

Go JD!!

Way to be.

It's unusual to see JD's name come up on a McCain thread.

“I could get on board with that if there were very tight restrictions and enforcement on it. “

It hasn’t been enforced since 1986, and there is no reason to believe it ever would be.

True. The key to any of this is enforcement. And we see where THAT got us!

The time is now. Learn from the past.

It’s all out of hand and completely out of control.

RE :”I wouldn’t mind granting work cards that expire every 2 years that have to be renewed, which would include thorough background checks.

I would add that the employer that wants to employ them temporarily must take responsibility for them, their health care, their housing and their kids costs and if they lose their jobs they are deported at the employers expense.

47% of the legal public pay no income taxes. Working poor are expensive and we pay for it. Employers get cheap labor and make us support them.

There must be areas for the states to have tougher restrictions than the overall federal guidelines, particularly the border states. For example, there are national ADA, fire codes, etc. But state and local codes are usual more stringent and must be followed. This should not be any different.

She is only supporting McCain out of loyalty, although I certainly don’t see where she owes him any.

I suppose she thinks she needs to repay him for putting her on the national stage. That's understandable, but she really ought to find ways to repay him without compromising good conservative principles.

Here is what we are up against.....and it ain’t pretty.

1) Democrats want 8 million to 10 million newly registered
Democrats. The unions, ever looking for more dues-paying members, want them too. SEIU has stated that an amnesty would add 10’s of millions to their membership coffers.

2) A sizable contingent of “country club” republicans and small business “ Chamber of Commerce” types want cheap labor, and plenty of it.

We are not just fighting Obama here.
