Accident or outright lie? David Brooks goes both ways but, no matter which, he sort of exonerates Blumenthal.

Correction. Liberals, not politicians, are expected to lie.

Gee, NYT columnists talk about politicians who are pathological liars. Did he also accidentally say he was captain of the Harvard swim team?
Of course NYT columnists think politicians who continually lie are no big deal. Those are the politicians they support. The NYT reporters and columnists also lie constantly anyway.

The claim is dishonorable, but everybody expects politicians to lie.He offer up an indictment as an excuse.
We are certainly living in strange times.

Brooks got one thing right. The claim is dishonorable. Brooks is an idiot regardless.
Blumenthal lied and misrepresented his service. He was a veteran of Vietnam era reserves but did not serve in Vietnam. Big difference and he shouldn’t lie about what he didn’t do.

He wants to be senator, one of one hundred that make law in the U.S. and he cannot remember if he was in a combat theater?
We are not talking about a multi-deployed secret agent, this guy is just a liar.

Brooks works for a newspaper that has literally made up stories from whole-cloth. How else can he respond, and not be labeled a hypocrite?
