WASHINGTON Political novice Rand Paul rode support from tea party activists to a rout in Kentucky's Republican Senate primary Tuesday night, jolting the GOP establishment. Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter lost his struggle for political survival in Pennsylvania, a five-term incumbent offering experience to voters clamoring for change.
Another Democratic incumbent, Sen. Blanche Lincoln, led narrowly in early returns in her race for nomination to a third term in Arkansas, but she risked being thrown into a costly run-off.
In a fourth race with national implications, Democrat Mark Critz moved ahead of Republican Tim Burns in a contest to fill out the final few months in the term of the late Rep. John Murtha in Pennsylvania. Each political party invested nearly $1 million in that contest and said the race to succeed the longtime Democratic lawmaker was something of a bellwether for the fall.
The conservative Paul, savoring his triumph over Secretary of State Trey Grayson, told supporters: "I have a message, a message from the tea party, a message that is loud and clear and does not mince words: We have come to take our government back."

Well, any district that would vote for Murtha falls into the too hard to change quickly category. Cue the Ha Ha kid for Arlen, hoist upon his own petard. How’s that pres__ential support workin’ out for ya? I guess they didn’t respect you in the morning.
That was my immediate reaction.

Are you serious? Never heard about that. If true, is there a video I could watch? I have thoroughly disliked Specter from the moment I first heard him speak.
Sorry, should have addressed my correction post to you. :) It’s there somewhere.
Yeah, I know, but it’s a democrat dominated district that’s totally addicted to federal pork, so what can you expect.
A caller from Pa called RUSH today and expressed the same sentiment...
Next... Reid from Nevada :)
What is missing at the PA State listings of the election are any totals - seems as if they’ve rolled them all together into the General Primary tallies.
As I suspected, it’s fixed!
FU Specter!
Even the libs don’t want you!
Don’t feel that all is lost yet, it is only until Nov. when we get another run at the seat. That’s only a few months away. We need to support Burns again only more, provided he is going to run that is. Hey Critz is not as pure as the wind driven snow, he has a few months to totally screw up!
TWO DOWN, Juan McDemocrat to go ...
with a hat tip to Kent C!
Don’t go away mad, Arlen. Just go away.
One thing worries me, especially if there’s a Republican landslide of epic proportions in November. What’s to keep these asshats from passing all sorts of crap between election day and the end of the term? They could have it all ready to go. Even if they win, they might as well do it. Between the fact that they can sell it as a mandate and the fact that they wouldn’t have to face reelection for another two years, they might as well go hog wild.
I still wish Arlen could have held on until November 2 and then be defeated properly. It was so unfair of the PA democracy to take care of him first. I would imagine that Specter has had enough of the PA democracy which asserted itself again in the Murtha district too. People in PA are not about to change by much.
I wonder how GWB and Laura feel about the defeat of their preferred candidate from 2004. And John Cornyn too, who still preferred Arlen as recently as 2009.
