Possible Voter Intimidation by Department of Homeland Security Agents in Phoenix?
05/18/10 | Hoosier-Daddy

Was listening to the Mike Broomhead Show on KFYI here in Phoenix. Two female callers on separate lines called in to tell similar stories. A group of Prop 100 (A Bill to raise our Sales Tax by 1% for "Education" and "Law Enforcement") Protestors at the Broadway Curve and at the US60 & Longmore Overpass in Mesa, were holding banners showing their disagreement with Prop 100 and similar bills in other cities. These banners were viewable by freeway traffic. In both instances, the groups, self-described as 'Old ladies in sneakers' were told to take down the signs by Department of Public Safety Officers, which they refused. Then, were confronted by an individual stating he was a agent for the Department of Homeland Security, who proceeded to demand their driver's licenses to file a report with each individuals' information. The group in Mesa preferred to leave, rather than giving the agent "their papers". Another agent at the Broadway Curve confronted the 'little old ladies in sneakers', took their drivers licenses, and filled out a report on each of them. As the group in Mesa obviously felt threatened by the DHS agent, if true, this is a violation of their First Amendment Rights, as well as Voter Intimidation. No wonder the Government didn't prosecute the Black Panthers for Voter Intimidation. They probably hired them as Consultants.

Can only report this anecdotally as I was not there. Both ladies reported essentially the same thing.

Clear violation of FA Rights. Need pics of Leftie groups protesting at the same spot.

This didn’t happen out of the blue. Someone higher up undoubtedly told them to go out there.

Who’s to say that the alleged Department of Homeland Security agent who read these drivers’ licenses and “filed reports” wasn’t an actual agent of a Mexican drug cartel? This is Phoenix. What kind of jurisdiction does the real federal Department of Homeland Security have over individuals engaging peaceably in free speech? None.

similar to the census worker whom walked into my garage and demanded me to fill out the census form. Simply stated, this is a private residence and you are trespassing, when your boss can supply me with his long form birth certificate and college records and other forms. you can take the census and get out of my garage and off my property. The woman had no reason to enter my garage. I have a front door and a back door, yet the ding bat demands me to fill out a damn form. The department of Homeland Security is just a bunch of appointed thugs of Obozo. They want to start an incident in AZ, to make trouble.

More likely, if not DHS, then SEIU.

Not to go against the flow here; but are people ever allowed to congregate and hang out on freeway overpasses (let alone display political paraphernalia)?

Mine, too. DHS doesn’t have an enforcement agency of itself. It’s composed of TSA, Coast Guard, Border Patrol, Customs, and a few assorted flavors.

When confronted by an “Agent”... demand to see his credentials. Up close.

As to “why is this a homeland security issue” (if it is; this is an unverified part of the story); any threat to major infrastructure definitely has their attention, I would think.

Well, there is a sidewalk on both sides. No danger to the protesters. The DPS said they could cause an accident. My a$$.
