It appears that the three men in jackets are MCL members. If so, they are violating their oath to remain non-political when in “uniform”.

Anybody got a better picture to see if they are MCL members?

This Blumenthal guy has big brass ones when it comes to PR and spin. Imagine the nerve it takes to translate somebody pointing out that you lied about being in a combat zone to impugning your military service in general.

Having to call on another Marine with a history of wearing unearned decorations and rank to stand up with him as he explains away his lies about his service...unbelievable.

The sad thing is that both these guys have perfectly admirable service records.

Blumenthal’s buddy on stage is POW HALL OF SHAME-BREAKING!!

After hearing this CYA event was held at a Veterans of FOREIGN Wars
location...there’s plenty of blame and shame to go around.’

What the h-ll was Blumenthal thinking?
As a never-served civilian, I’d give respect to somebody for making
it through the gauntlet of USMC basic training at Parris Island.

But like too many Dems, telling fibs and “enhancing the resume” are
just SOP.
Shameful.

all the liars get to sit around the VFW and talk about how great they used to be. douche bags..... supporting a lying sack of sh#t for their "feelings" that he is just a great guy...

Wait just a minute there before you go knocking the VFW – Not a single one of them is wearing a VFW patch or a VFW hat. While I don't know what group they represent, it sure ain't the VFW.

...he lionized his local VFW Commander, told me he had been a POW in VN. The more he talked about him the more flags that went up, I got his name and started some searches (which is getting easier and more efficient concerning POWs especially), no verification whatsoever.

That is really hard to imagine that a guy could get all the way up to post commander without such a blatant lie being caught. You're right - There are sites on the internet that list every POW from Vietnam.

I can't even put my ship's patch with the others on the post cork-board until I show documentation that I served on that ship.

How fitting! These guys have no shame at all. This today reminded me of John Kerry in 2004 and his silly band of Brothers. I always wondered how much he paid each one to stand there with him?

Thank you, RaceBannon.

I watched this display of political theatre today and wondered about the participants.

Disgusting.

Blumenthal besmirches all who have served with honor and valor with his tawdry behavior.

From Polotical:
By JAMES HOHMANN | 5/18/10 7:37 PM EDT
The commander of Connecticut’s Veterans of Foreign Wars organization blasted Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal Tuesday, referring to his prior statements of service in Vietnam as “outrageous.”

“Mr. Blumenthal was considered one of the best friends a veteran could have in Connecticut. It is a true shame that he let a false claim of Vietnam service change that,” said Richard DiFederico, in a statement. “Those who served in uniform during the Vietnam era also deserve our gratitude, which makes Mr. Blumenthal's claim to be something he is not so outrageous.”

DiFederico’s statement came after Blumenthal’s dramatic and defiant press conference Tuesday at a VFW hall in West Hartford, an event which took place in response to a New York Times report that the Connecticut attorney general had on more than one occasion said he had served in Vietnam, although his time in the Marine Corps Reserve was in fact spent in Washington and Connecticut

Blumenthal is not a member of the VFW, and national leaders noted that he wouldn’t meet the eligibility requirement if he tried to join because he didn’t actually serve in a theatre of combat. The group’s bylaws also do not allow any level of the organization to endorse political candidates.

Jerry Newberry, the director of communications at the VFW’s Kansas City headquarters, said that the national leadership “did not sanction and was not, in fact, aware that the press conference was going to be held at a VFW Post.”

“This decision was made at the Post level,” he told POLITICO in an email.

Joe Davis, the director of public affairs in the VFW’s Washington office, pointed to DiFederico’s statement.

“This is a state issue. Obviously the guy’s not a U.S. senator yet. It’s up to him and the voters,” Davis said. “We’re going to let the state of Connecticut and the VFW Department of Connecticut handle these calls.”

GOP Senate candidate and former Rep. Rob Simmons, a decorated military veteran who spent 19 months in Vietnam, seized on Blumenthal’s appearance Tuesday in an interview with Fox News.

“He's not a veteran of foreign wars,” said Simmons, who is a VFW member. “He should not be a member of the VFW, and I find it offensive that he's still wrapping himself in the veteran flag of those of us who served in Vietnam."

Vets for Freedom, a conservative group of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, joined in a chorus of criticism Tuesday and called on Blumenthal to formally apologize to those who actually fought in Vietnam.

“After the New York Times exposed his real service record, Mr. Blumenthal remained defiant at his rebuttal press conference, saying he takes ‘full responsibility’ for the statements, yet refuses to apologize,” said Pete Hegseth, an Iraq war veteran and the group’s executive director, in a statement. “Mr. Blumenthal also claims he merely ‘misspoke’ on a few occasions, and did so unknowingly. As a combat veteran of Iraq, I find this very hard to believe. All veterans know what they did and where they were. There’s a big difference between the battlefield and your hometown.”

A spokesman for the left-leaning VoteVets group said Jon Soltz, the group’s chairman, was unavailable for comment on the matter because he’s on active duty and isn’t allowed to talk about politics.

Welcome to FR.

In the future, as a polite gesture, you might want to switch your caps lock off. It’s considered shouting. Folks here will read what you have to say.

That was some good information you posted btw.
