There are really only two things to worry about. One, food shortages. Two, power outages. A hundred bucks can buy 3 months of canned food for one person. So for a few hundred bucks you could be well stocked for food. A rain barrel for 30 bucks could keep you in drinking water if you live in a wet climate. So a little prep will keep you and like minded friends alive should food or water be a problem. Your biggest worry will be defending your stuff. Hopefully you and your friends-neighbors can figure out a plan on how to do that. You will need at least 10-12 people all willing to work together. Every one should have a hand gun and a rifle or shot gun. Plenty of ammo would be nice too. 50 runs min for hand gun, 250 rounds min for long gun. With all that your chances are good against local criminals should worst come to worst. However you won’t stand a chance against anyone with grenades or RPG’s. Keeping a low profile is a must.

I am keeping all this info close. The one thing I do not have is a gun and don't know anyone that does. I think I will investigate applying for a license and take some lessons at the shooting range. To know you have control of your own destiny makes things seem less helpless.
