Former First Lady Laura Bush has come out against the Arizona immigration law, pointing to the discrimination that her own Irish ancestors, named Welch, faced in their time.

In an interview with Fox News, Bush said the new law merely showed an upsurge in prejudice similar to what her Irish ancestors faced.

Why isn’t she apologizing to the Chinese like Hilary?

Most people knew that she was a self proclaimed Democrat prior to her marriage to W. I still think that she did a great job as FLOTUS but she was fairly non-political in that role (as it should be).

I am surprised that she has come out so politically with her book since she never really liked the attention beforehand, but I'm not surprised about where she stands politically as that was always known to anyone interested enough to look.

Maybe the left will finally shut up about the Bushes since its clear Laura is one of them.

Not a freaking chance. If Bush raised taxes, advocated socialized medicine, supported amnesty for illegal aliens (which of course he did), spent taxpayer dollars like a drunken lib (did that too), pushed for an new AWB, and kissed the posteriors of the envirowhacko lobby they'd still hate his guts with a passion. Why? because he's a pro-life Republican.

I guess she can say sh*t like this. She probably has security crawling all over her residence. Somebody hears every fart she lets go and comes to check on her. The average Arizonan only has himself/herself to provide security for their family.

Full context:

WALLACE: Well, I have to ask you, since you brought it up, are you unhappy with the Arizona law?

BUSH: Well, not necessarily. I mean, I think we have to have the immigration laws. And you know, that's a really important part of it. It's just that the debate about the immigration laws, about Arizona's law, end up targeting someone — a group of people.

WALLACE: Do you worry that it...

BUSH: And it's — this is not new in American history. There have been many groups of immigrants who've been targeted over all of our history — the Irish, for instance, when a lot of Irish immigrants, including my family, came to the United States — other times — and it's just that it's a trait of nativism that shows up in American — in American history in a lot of different ways.

WALLACE: Should gays be allowed to marry?

BUSH: Well, I think what I really believe is that it's something that is so difficult. It's a very, very difficult issue for very many people, because the marriage between a man and a woman is so fundamental to our civic life, for all of our history, for the history of humans.

And it's a debate that I think people want to have. But I hope they have it in a way that protects people. And in many ways, I think it's generational and that gay marriage will come. WALLACE: Gay marriage will come?

BUSH: Yeah.

WALLACE: And are you OK with that?

BUSH: I'm okay with that.

Re: “Laura Bush is really showing herself in the last couple of weeks”

***************

I’m really glad my gut told me NOT to buy her book — I knew she’d grown up a Dem but thought the affliction had been obliterated over time. True, though, that “W” and Bush the elder were never conservative.

Wish Laura would’ve kept her mouth shut a few more years though — this leaves a bad taste in mine..........

She spoke of all of this as first lady or on the campaign trail...I think her real reason is she has Mexican in laws. Which I couldn't care about as I had an American Indian brother in law, Sicilian bother in law and a Polish husband. but if they were illegals I would still be against illegal aliens. My sister's boyfriend is 100% legal Mexican and he hates illegals...says he can spot a wet back in a crowd of Mexicans...Its a *get in line like the rest of us thing*

In TX, all one has to do is wait until March/April 2012 and vote in the Democratic primary or runoff, and he is automatically a Demcrat for two years.

One can either put on the truth, and come forward as a Conservative, and tell it like you have, or one can be a head in the sand RINO ostrich, and live in a dream world.

I know where **I** stand.

Telling how worked up FR gets about stuff already known, and people who have no influence....hundreds of posts on these threads.

And threads on men with real power to use against us, have maybe a dozen posts.

No wonder Rightwing men are as impotent as ever against the left.

Flaccid and unproductive.

They are bought off, as a family, at some level, by Narcotrafico Drug Family/Cartel money in and from Mexico. It necessarily must be that. It is the only logical conclusion one can come to.

Indeed, GWB's loyalties could not have been to conservatism, because if his amnesty had succeeded, the leftists inevitably would have gained firm control of everything.

I was also thinking that GWB must have made some kind of deal. My guess was that he promised amnesty in exchange for oil. But maybe it's not that simple.
