The Democratic nominee for the Texas governors race, Bill White, continues his downward spiral in his campaign against Texas Governor Rick Perry, the Republican nominee. His sparsely-attended political gatherings are showing its effects on opinion polls. According to the Houston Chronicle, a new Rasmussen Reports poll of Texans finds Texas Gov. Rick Perry with enough support to win the election for the first time this year. Former Houston Mayor Bill White in the meantime has lost ground, despite a round of television advertising. Apparently, Mr. White is losing support in his home-base of Houston. The Bill White Houston Political Machine is woefully stumbling with a statewide campaign.

Will the fact that Rick Perry carries only a little .380 hurt him with Texas voters, or will they take into consideration that it is his jogging pistol?
I totally agree with your pro- Perry post. Why so many Freepers are against him I don’t know. I suspect it is the same bunch who always insist on their perfect candidate or they are going to stay home or vote third party - both counter product.
The should be ignored!
I loved when he used to do the Yankee tv broadcasts with The Scooter.
Never underestimate this guy...Someone is going to whine and cry to someone else who has some pull in the Democrat party and they’ll dump some last minute cash into this campaign and try to give him a boost in the home stretch...
The Republicans had better be ready for that...
We need to also consentrate on widening the margin of the conservative seats in the state house...We only have a party majority of 3 seats IIRC...there are some targeted districts the liberals are going to put both barrels on till November...I hope their efforts are wasted...
We need to get with our State Reps and Senaors and help them retain their seats for this next session...What ills there are at the Governor and Speaker of the House leval can be manipulated by a strong showing at the polls...
We thought that Voter ID bill was a big deal...
Wait till the Texas Healthcare Protection Act is filed...
What the Federal government did to us with 2400 pages, will have to be undone at the state level with two pages...
We need to make sure we have a Legislative branch and a Governor who will sign it in place next year...
No more fiddle fartin’ around now...We cannot afford it...
Goodhair is the luckiest politician in the country, he wins every election by default.
If he wasn’t lucky he’d maybe have to find real employment since he failed at farming.

I think it is 77-73 [a two seat flip will put it even] but anyway the House is critical as we are approaching a redistricting year after the census is complete. Remember the fight and flight by the democrats that took place last time.
Yep, Texas can’t afford to flip the majority now...Not in the house or the governors seat...
Redistricting is the icing on the cake...
That’s good.
White tried to make Houston a sanctuary city...really liberal.
All you need to do is drive around Houston to see White’s leadership. It is very sad.
This is an example of well meaning people can disagree and still be in sync on most things.
Personally, I was in favor to the Trans Texas corridor. All such projects, like the interstate highways system back in the fifties, use imminent domain for right of way for those projects. That is a legitimate use of ID. Rarely do the landowners and the government agree on the value of the land.
I well remember back in the eighties they were going to build a Super Conducting Super Collider just south of Dallas. Some people who were displaced had been on their land for generations, more than 100 years. One old lady had lived in the same house all her life and she was ninety. It was her parents’ house and she was born there. Made no difference, she lost it.
Regretfully, just as they were about to start construction, after a couple of billion had been spent and lots of jobs had been lined up, the Democrats came in and cancelled it. All the land, as far as I know, still sits vacant and I guess the government still owns it.
The Swiss recently built a similar project and the media is raving about its potential.
I know the TTC was not going to be owned, built or operated by the state but that was even better in my mind.
I also have a vague memory of Perry’s plan to send the Texas National Guard to the Texas border when Bush was President but that seemed to die on the vine. I don’t remember why.
I wasn’t too pleased with Perry’s attempt to make that anti-whatever drug mandatory for high school girls but overall I think he has done an excellent job. Texas ranks very high in many categories because of his efforts.
Part of Bill White’s campaign for governor was to expose him to the entire state. He had already started running for Texas’ US Senator (Kay Bailey’s seat) before he threw his hat in the ring for governor.
It’s all been about getting his name out there. And the fact that Kay Bailey said she’d be stepping down AND that Republicans knocked her in the primary means that there may be no encumbant for that seat in 2012.
The expectation is that Lt. Gov. Dewhurst will run for Kay’s seat.
Yes, and it will never come. The Federal government and many states are OUTRAGED that Arizona has passed a law with the same language as existing (unenforced) federal law.
This is why Arizona's solution is a way to get SOME enforcement.
Bill White is know to campaign early and long for any electable position...
He started campaining for Mayor of Houston almost 2 years before the election...
His TV ads were very neutral, non political, goal oriented, city services, fiscal responsibility, hire more police and firefighters, riegn in corruption and ethics reform blah blah blah...
I still remember Texas’s own slick-miester from way back when...
Personally, I believe everyone (who does) is right to criticize Rick Perry for his moderate stances on a lot of issues...but if they are doing so to level the playing field or do something to give Bill white a leg up or a chance in this election, then every single one of them don’t know what a Bill White will do to Texas from that chair in Austin...
It will certainly take the bedrock of conservatism in this entire country away from being a powerhouse of resistance to socialism coming full bore at us from Washington D.C.
Forget about repealing government socialized healthcare, tax breaks, fiscal conservatism, homeland security, border security, your right to keep and bear arms, economic recovery...
Be ready for more unemployment, taxes and spending, Amnesty, government funded abortion on demand, owning or posessing firearms for any purpose...
Bill White has been waiting patiently for a chance to assist in taking Texas out of the resistance to Federal big government, and he will get some last minute support to make it a horse race...
When some get tired of the rhetoric just before the election, and do not show up to oppose Bill White, I don’t want to hear a single b!tch, gripe or moan out of anyone the next day...
So all I’ll say in conclusion is that I hope to be proven wrong in November...Be hacked off about Rick Perry all you want...But just remember...What is the alternative???
hehehe
Heard on local news last night that there was a ‘Methodist’ terrorist on his way to Houston by the name of Mohammed Ali (No, not Cassius Clay). They believed that he had crossed the border with Mexico. Yet, it remains open.
I then realized that our smiling jack Gov. Goodhair was just another politician who is more interested in his political career than in the welfare of Texas. There is no reason for him not to close the border (that’s why it’s called a border, dammit).
Now tell me what the difference is between Smiling Jack and Smiling Bill. They’re both Cheshire cats.
I'm not a fan of Perry...think he's a RINO. However, there is no doubt that White is a full-pledged left-wing Democrat.
The few people I know who have had dealings with him as Mayor say he is arrogantly obnoxious.
BTW, I don't care who you vote for but... if you like Perry, you'll love White.
