U.S. Said to Allow Drilling Without Needed Permits
New York Times ^ | May 13, 2010 | IAN URBINA

Posted on 05/17/2010 6:45:55 AM PDT by libstripper

The federal Minerals Management Service gave permission to BP and dozens of other oil companies to drill in the Gulf of Mexico without first getting required permits from another agency that assesses threats to endangered species — and despite strong warnings from that agency about the impact the drilling was likely to have on the gulf.

All of these unwise permits were granted by the Obama admininstration after Obama's campaign received the highest campaign contributions given by BP and its employees in the 2008 election. Bribery, anybody???

OK I'm a dummy.
Somebody tell me how the lack of an environmental permit caused anything.
This I've got to hear.

I’m a South Alabama resident who owns multiple properties throughout the region with several on the water. I have good reason to give a “flying F”

BP dropped the ball. So did the Obama administration. Both should pay for that.

Responding to the accusations that agency scientists were being silenced, Ms. Barkoff added, “Under the previous administration, there was a pattern of suppressing science in decisions, and we are working very hard to change the culture and empower scientists in the Department of the Interior.”

Obama is really going to need these presidential terms lengthened to turn everything around.

So all we needed was another govt permit and this spill would have been avoided? That’s good to know the magical properties of govt permits.

Boxer is a moron.

Boxer is a zombie sheep.

Boxer is a Kool Aid drinker.

Boxer is a socialist if not an outright commie.

Boxre is one of the most arrogant politicians ever to be elected in California.

So is Pelosi.

Vote them out, California!

Some tar balls came up on Dauphin Island, where I do own property. I haven’t been down there yet to clean it up but probably will at some point.

The point is, this was malfeasance of the worst kind on the part of BP. They are at fault for this one. Most oil companies operating in the Gulf haven’t had the record of problems that they had. It suggests that there is something wrong with the company and it is only bolstered when the company gives all that money to Obama and then he goes out of his way to shield BP and give them special favors.

Drill, baby, drill! Trust but verify. Ensure safeguards are in place to prevemt spills and leaks.

We also need to start leading a lot more nuclear power planrs in all states as well as to do research on how to reuse and recycle nuclear waste by products instead of worrying about disposal.

My point is that we should actually see what kind of devastation there is before we panic. If we believed the MSM about all this, the entire coast of the Gulf is swimming in oil. From what FReepers are saying, nothing is happening yet.

I don’t want you to think I am being flippant in this. I truly feel for you and think that any damage should be compensated, however, I’ve seen people panic many times and the actual outcome is far less devastating.
