PHOENIX Arizona's governor enlisted the help of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin yesterday to defend a new law cracking down on illegal immigration, as calls spread for an economic boycott of the state.
Jan Brewer and Palin blamed President Barack Obama for the state law, saying the measure is Arizona's attempt to enforce immigration laws because the federal government won't do it.
"It's time for Americans across this great country to stand up and say, 'We're all Arizonans now,'" Palin said. "And in clear unison we say, 'Mr. President: Do your job. Secure our border.'"
The former Alaska governor appeared with Brewer at a brief news conference on yestersday. The event launched a website that Brewer said was an effort to educate America about border security and discourage an economic boycott of the state.
The site, funded by Brewer's re-election campaign, shows pictures of Brewer and Palin and invites visitors to sign a petition opposing boycotts. It includes a list of politicians and organizations calling for the boycotts and asks visitors to call or e-mail to "let them know that you support Arizona."

Interesting. I wonder why they didn't do this for the eight years Bush didn't enforce the immigration laws?
Must be mean republicans...
With the majority of Americans supporting Arizona's right to secure it's border may these pro-illegal all go down in economic flames!
If they're placing blame for the law on Obama then will they also have to give him credit if it works?
Wasn´t there some kind of Immigration Reform, in 1983 called the Simpson-Rodino Law, which gave amnesty to a ton of people, and that was suppose to fix it so there wouldn´t be another swell of the same thing happening? Whatever Simpson Rodino was, it didn’t stop the influx.
They’re expecting support from someone who has an illegal alien aunt (with a deportation order against her) still happily here, living on public assistance?
If ‘blame’ is the appropriate word for what Palin and Brewer are doing then could the economic boycott be working? Are they trying to say, “Don’t blame us for the lost tourism, Obama made us do it?” That would seem to indicate the boycott is already working.
“Mr. President: Do your job. Secure our border.”
Eight words - says it all.
US Immigration Law Enforcement by Local Agencies
In 2002, the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) issued an extremely important legal opinion explaining that state and local police officers have the inherent authority to arrest illegal aliens and transfer them to federal custody, regardless of whether the aliens have committed criminal or civil violations of immigration law. U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft announced the conclusion of that OLC opinion in June 2002. However, the full opinion was only made available to the public as a result of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. The local arrest authority recognized in this opinion is a critical component of immigration enforcement. Read the full opinion (PDF).
“Interesting. I wonder why they didn’t do this for the eight years Bush didn’t enforce the immigration laws”?
...it wasn’t until the last 2 years that ranchers were being shot on their own property. Also, I’m not sure that Brewer was in the Gov seat during the Bush years. I’m going to check.
“Janice K. Brewer became the 22nd person to take the oath of office as Governor of Arizona on January 21, 2009”
You can't be serious. That's your criteria for wanting the border enforced?
I guess we should forget about the rapes, murders and crimes by illegals against citizen NOT on the border for the previous eight years.
LLS
So, I guess as Secretary of State she had no opinion on the crimes by illegals in her state?
BTW, I am not blaming Brewer. I question Palin's taking advantage of this populist movement. I wonder if the Buchanan haters here on FR will take up the same hue and cry against Palin's populism as they did Buchanan?
During those eight years:
Janet Napolitano was Governor of Arizona, and thought the status quo too restrictive,
and Sarah Palin was Governor of Alaska and, while she doubtless had an opinion, was rightly concentrating on Alaskan issues.
I don't know what Jan Brewer was doing at the time, but I know she wasn't in a position to do anything but yell about it-- or make plans.
Given what I’ve read about AZ’s illegal immigration problems: I don’t think they’d give a $#!t who gets the credit if it works, as long as it works.
She was Secratary of State. It would be interesting to find out what her stance on voting rights and qualifications of AZ citizens was for voting was.
“You can’t be serious. That’s your criteria for wanting the border enforced”?
...that certainly isn’t my criteria! The media hasn’t covered squat in that state until recently. I’m more than familiar with the issues facing AZ.
