Miss Michigan Rima Fakih has become the first Arab-American and Muslim to be crowned Miss America. Fakih, 24, is of Lebanese descent. She won the swimsuit, evening gown and interview competitions. Fakih said during her interview that she believes birth control should be paid for by a national health insurance program, a marked contrast politically from Miss USA runner up Carrie Prejean's controversial comment last year opposing gay marriage.
“This is historic,” said Imad Hamad of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. “This shows the greatness of America, how everyone can have a chance to make it," he told the Detroit Free Press.

It would not surprise me... She’s from Lebanon, one of the more enlightened place in the arab world. Beirut used to be called the Paris of the ME. And probably she’s about as devout a muslim as I am.
Even though I’m not a big fan of beauty contests, I think events like these go a long way in promoting assimilation. It will undoubtedly infuriate the islamists even more, but for the squishy muslims, this will push them more to our side. And the more they become “americanized” the closer we are to ending this culture war.

There was an interesting panel of judges this year as well. NBA star Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets was a judge as were former Miss USA 2006, Tara Conner, and The Food Network’s Paula Deen. Also judging were Oscar Nunez (The Office), businessman Phil Ruffin, model Melania Trump, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir and Glamour Magazine editor Suze Yalof-Schwartz.

She is an American citizen of Lebanese decent. She has not displayed any tendencies to kill anyone as far as I can see. She is participating in a pageant that basically goes against EVERYTHING RADICAL ISLAM is AGAINST!!! Why not step back from the edge and have another look... perhaps she is just an American young woman participating in an American pageant.... and whaddaya’ know... she WON! This issue is not a part of the war on terror. Truly... not.
