This is the only celebrity death that I can remember in years where I recoiled when I heard the news.
Strongest voice I ever heard. RIP
Like Alice Cooper, there was a world of difference between Dio's on stage persona and the man in real life. So I've heard.
Many years ago I was getting out of my car to check into my hotel in Daytona Beach, FL. It was raining and very dark. I am confined to a wheelchair and was struggling to hurry with my luggage from my car when this very creepy guy runs up to me, scaring me to death, and grabbed my luggage and said, “I’ll follow you.” I checked in, with the creepy guy in two, and went to my room. He brought in my luggage and told me if I needed anything to call him in his room. He gave me the details, and invited me for a drink in the bar. Reluctantly I said OK figuring I owed the guy a drink. When we entered the bar, EVERYONE looked...It was then I found out he was Ronnie James Deo. He gave me back stage ticket to his show and provided me a ride with him in his limo....I have never met a nicer person in my entire life. RIP, my friend...
This Metalhead is saddened.
RIP.
I searched, but no good enough....
Can we make this breaking? The guy was the best or at least top 3 metal singers ever.
Thanks for sharing your story. I just copied it and sent it to Mr. trisham. When I told him Ronnie James Dio had passed away, he was very saddened.
Don’t sweat it; it’s a different article. I only provided the link to provide the additional info.
Great story. I enjoyed his music. Later on I assumed he was a good guy because you never heard anything about him.
RIP Ronnie. Thanks for sharing your gift with the world. I didn’t know he was as old as he is. He is only a year younger than my Mom.
Sorry to hear this. Alice Cooper mentioned something about him possibly touring this summer. Rainbow in the Dark is a great song.
Oh crap ping.
I was always fond of Dio.
Done. RIP, Ronnie.
I gave this some thought and can't think of any better metal vocalist that I've actually seen live.
