NEW ORLEANS Researchers tracking the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico say computer models show the black ooze may have already entered a major current flowing toward the Florida Keys, and are sending out a research vessel to learn more.
William Hogarth, dean of the University of South Florida's College of Marine Science, told The Associated Press Sunday that one model shows that the oil has already the loop current, which is the largest in the Gulf. ..
Hogarth said a second model shows the oil is 3 miles from the current still dangerously close.

I imagine what is bad for the keys is good for the RR. It’s got to go somewhere.
Environmentally, it's worse if it travels to the Keys. Remember, the Keys contain CONUS's only living coral reef. Oil settling on a reef would be catastrophic.
“Models indicate Gulf spill may be in major current”
I’ve never known models to be that smart.
Hopefully it would just get dispersed into the Gulf Stream. Coming ashore along the north gulf wouldn’t bode well at all for anyone. It is a mess that mother nature will wash one way or another.
And they are bringing oily birds with them to prove their theory.
It could be devastating. Also don’t forget the lobster industry, shrimp, and all of the shallow waters, mangroves around the islands that are estuary’s for many juvenile fish. Plus many fish migrate out to the reefs in June to spawn, then return to the Gulf side after they spawn. The devastation could be enormous and it may not even known how devastating until years later.
Environmental “scientists” are proven liars.
Sounds like good news - gets it out where it can disperse.

...the Swedish Oceanographic Institute.
OHHHH. chewing my knuckles
So far they have a few oily birds a couple of “tar balls” and an oil slick that drifts to and fro.
They are simply beside themselves there is no absolute catastrophe yet to report so we are left with computer models to hypothesize what the oil might be doing.
Frankly I'm impressed as hell with the amount of the oil and gas flowing out of an exploratory well.
Is this the same bunch that found the oil that doesn’t float?
The main experience we have had with flows from the Mississippi River and other Gulf areas have proven in the past to have been way over blown.
We endure winter time algae blooms almost yearly with little or no ecological damage and by the time this oil reaches the Gulfstream it may well gravitate to the apex of the stream which would put it some 30 miles offshore of the reef.
So let's not get all super heated yet.
Whoopdee doo. "Computer models" have also showed a catastrophic ozone hole, doubling of the Sahara Desert from "global warming", sea level rises of over 6 feet, extinction of 99% of all species, and The Cubs winning the World Series by the end of the 21st Century.
The Axis of Asses.
