even take pictures with it to intimidate other people and nobody is going to know about it

They can also do that by carving a block of wood, and painting it to look like a gun. They can do that by having someone who's good at Photoshop superimpose their face on a photo of another person in a threatening pose.

These hand-wringing ninnies need to get a life. Why don't they worry about incoming asteroids.

Did these guys ever come across a problem, not related to sex or drugs, where they DIDN’T think the solution was for ME to give up some more freedom?

Personally, I think it would be a good idea to do a background check when they rent a gun. The problem is that there is no facility to do a background check on such short notice. We have a local gun range where a mother and her 20 year old son went to the range and rented a gun. The mother killed the son, then killed herself. Turns out that she had been Baker Acted, yet they rented her a gun. There was no way the gun shop could have known that she had been Baker Acted. They complained to the State that the State would not let them do an instant background check, but to no avail. A month later, some guy went to the same range, rented a gun, and committed suicide. I was just there a few days ago. They are still not doing background checks because there is simply no way to do them.

If Juan Cardona-Marquez (Obviously an Amish name!) were indeed a “prohibited person” when he went to that gun range, then even touching a firearm there was already a crime. Thus there is no loophole in the law and the author should go and change his Depends.

If I ran a gun shop and wanted to rent guns, I would make rentals contingent upon joining a “club” wherein they are checked using whatever means necessary to insure they are legally allowed to own a gun. After the check is complete, they are issued a card, and then they can rent a firearm for range use.

Renting firearms to anyone that walks in the door just seems like a recipe for trouble.

They don’t want Cops enforcing immigration laws but they want gun ranges to do checks on shooters. Too much pot does strange things to people.

To all of those people on this thread who think that there should be stringent background checks at ranges let me tell you how it was to live in America before JFK got himself shot.

You could walk into any store that sold guns and buy one without a background check, you could(and my parents did)order a gun through the mail via Monkey Wards or Speigel Catalogs and receive them after a few weeks waiting for delivery. In fact I have in my possession two such firearms, one a .22 long rifle semi-auto and another .222 Remington bolt action rifle, both of which belonged to my mother and both of which were ordered via catalog and delivered by mail. Anyone who actually thinks background checks and gun laws prevents criminals from having firearms needs their heads examined. There was far fewer violent crime incidents in the 1950s than there are now and gangs didn’t go around sucker punching people either without fear of getting their a**es blown off.

Check out Post 62. There’s another NRA antigunner writing that one.

Free Republic probably has more NRA haters than DU.

The Milwaukee district attorney's office charged him Friday with illegal gun possession stemming from his rental at Badger Guns.

Personally, I don't think that's gonna fly......

What's the difference between the range providing him with the firearm, on their property, than him being my friend and I allow him to shoot it with me at my local outdoor range?

I think they're just grasping at straws........

It’s legal for anyone to hand their car keys to anyone without checking and confirming their driver’s license.

Funny, that’s a bigger problem (count the bodies), but nobody seems he11-bent on solving it.

Before people wet themselves over this stupid article, they should go to the local gun range and rent a gun.

Yeah, its pretty easy. BUT, the guns NEVER leave the range. They are passed to the range through a vault (like a drive up teller drawer.) The range officer takes the pistol and ammo to the position on range. They watch these folks like hawks—mostly because they are newbies renting a 1911 or .44 magnum.

I spend a lot of time at the range and the worst I’ve seen is some idiot shooting the ceiling downrange.

When they are done, they return the gun to the vault.

If they want to commit suicide, I guess they could. If they want to shoot me when I am not looking, I guess they could. If someone wants to take pictures, I guess they could.

But, for 99.999% of the renters the process is very controlled and safe.

I wish the roads around here were that safe.
I wish the cops arrest record was that clean.
I wish the local hospitals infection rate was that good.

There are a lot of things that can get you killed more often than someone going wacky at a pistol range.
