Scientists forecast decades of ash clouds
Many more of Icelands volcanoes seem to be stirring
Iceland could be at the start of a surge in volcanic activity that may produce more eruptions Jonathan Leake and Chris Hastings
THE Icelandic eruption that has caused misery for air travellers could be part of a surge in volcanic activity that will affect the whole of Europe for decades, scientists have warned.
They have reconstructed a timeline of 205 eruptions in Iceland, spanning the past 1,100 years, and found that they occur in regular cycles with the relatively quiet phase that dominated the past five decades now coming to an end.
At least three other big Icelandic volcanoes are building towards an eruption, according to Thor Thordarson, a volcanologist at Edinburgh University.
The frequency of Icelandic eruptions seems to rise and fall in a cycle lasting around 140 years, he said. In the latter part of the 20th century we were in a low period, but now there is evidence that we could be approaching a peak.

Our most modern technology, crippled by a belch from the planet.
Man plans, and God laughs.
THanks for the simple, and “visual” explanation. You conveyed more information in a few sentences than I’ve gleaned in long articles.
So has anyone figured-out Iceland’s carbon footprint. Shouldn’t they be purchasing some kind of carbon credits from algore and his ilk? Isn’t Iceland being irresponsible. Shouldn’t the eco-nuts be boycotting bad Iceland. It’s going to take a lot of salted herring to buy those credits.
Some sort of sacrifice must be made to the volcano gods and Gaia. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Leftists try to re-institute throwing virgins into the volcano to try and stop it.
Anybody know how many tons of Co2 are given off each day by these volcanoes? I expect many.
Just goes to show, with one flick of her little finger, Mother Nature shoes us how it is done.
And the libs think they can control this?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
If the libs truly wanted to reduce Co2, they would institute a massive tree planting program.
THank you switchblade0739.
Maybe Master Algore will volunteer to fly his Gulfstream into the gaping maw?
I’ll be cheering him on!
I hope he puts a sat-linked camera in the nose of the jet for us to enjoy his mission.
This is fascinating because humanity is now facing real climate change and crop reduction that will be painful. The volcano Krakatoa erupted in 1883, a blast heard 2000 miles away, and the ash plume and subsequent cloud formation blocked the sun and dropped global temperatures by 2.2 degrees F.
Volcanic eruptions do real damage and block the sun - which is why the 1975 Global Cooling scare was more compelling since they likened coal caused air pollution to volcanic ash which was historically very relevant to cold weather and diminished agriculture. The current GW liars try to claim a billion people will die from CO2 caused climate change and then point to African agriculture failing as a symptom of AGW but mysteriously and conveniently leave out North American or European agriculture failing - because it is not. African ag suffered for many other reasons including mismanagement. Now Euro ag will truly suffer and it will be interesting to hear the Warmists’ spin.
They will keep rationalizing and talking. They will only stop when people no longer listen to him and make them completely irrelevant.
They wouldn’t use their own children.
And I am sure those same scientists predicted this Ash Cloud.
Science is so much alarmist clap these days and like the clap you don’t want to catch it.
it must not be to cold in iceland
This could wreak havoc with air transport in (to/from) Europe. Not good for me, since I’m over there several times each year. Was not happy being stranded for several days on the last trip due to the volcano.
If this becomes routine, you might have to fly to Seville, Spain, and ride a train northward.
