Study: White and black children biased toward lighter skin (Whites racist due to 'entitlements'?)
CNN U.S. ^ | May 14, 2010 4:24 p.m. EDT | Jill Billante and Chuck Hadad

Posted on 05/15/2010 7:32:38 AM PDT by pillut48

Renowned child psychologist and University of Chicago professor Margaret Beale Spencer, a leading researcher in the field of child development, led the study. She designed the pilot study and led a team of three psychologists: two testers to execute the study and a statistician to help analyze the results.

"All kids on the one hand are exposed to the stereotypes" she said. "What's really significant here is that white children are learning or maintaining those stereotypes much more strongly than the African-American children. Therefore, the white youngsters are even more stereotypic in their responses concerning attitudes, beliefs and attitudes and preferences than the African-American children."

Spencer says this may be happening because "parents of color in particular had the extra burden of helping to function as an interpretative wedge for their children. Parents have to reframe what children experience ... and the fact that white children and families don't have to engage in that level of parenting, I think, does suggest a level of entitlement. You can spend more time on spelling, math and reading, because you don't have that extra task of basically reframing messages that children get from society."

Spencer was also surprised that children's ideas about race, for the most part, don't evolve as they get older. The study showed that children's ideas about race change little from age 5 to age 10.

"The fact that there were no differences between younger children, who are very spontaneous because of where they are developmentally, versus older children, who are more thoughtful, given where they are in their thinking, I was a little surprised that we did not find differences."

This whole article is horse hockey!

My daughter’s best friend is over to watch a tennis match this afternoon at a local CC. She’s black, we’re white. SO WHAT!

The only time race or the color of someone’s skin seems to ever come up is when some liberal @ss hat starts spewing their bull sh@t!

“Parents [plural] of color...” I wonder how long it took before they found a nuclear family.

Another worthless study about “race” that provides absolutely no useful information to anybody. I suppose they’re trying prove that perceptions concerning skin color shape the lives of the persons who supposedly reflect negatively due to the color of their skin. Every other factor is usually ignored.

(Whites racist due to 'entitlements'?)

Whites (and far east Asians) aren't the ones with the entitlements.

"we are still living in a society where dark things are devalued and white things are valued."

Uh huh. Which is valued more, white chocolate or dark chocolate, Johnny Walker Red or Black, white rappers or black rappers, black electronic devices or white electronic devices, black granite countertops or white, black tuxedos and evening dresses or white, black dress shoes or white, black pepper or white pepper, black crayons or white crayons, etc?

Honestly for a small sliver of the African-American population they have an unhealthy obsession with whites. When I hear them say “racist” or “racism” I just assume they are preaching a new age animism.

In Asia people will work the fields covered head to toe to avoid the sun and the resulting darkening of the skin.

Well, it’s easier to spout forth BS like this and look for scapegoats than it is to face the fact of being lazy, undisciplined, and stupid, and it’s much easier than working hard and applying oneself.

Much better to just make excuses.

There's a whole lotta reframin' goin' on. Extra reframing time is why the kids do poorly in scholarly subjects. Yeah, that's the ticket.

“Unbelievable! Black kids are poor students because of whites.”

According to the black techs in my lab, all college educated, the problem is parents.

From my reading and from what globe-trotter friends have told me.... Lighter skin Asians generally rule the roost. Are n nation’s rich and elite. In Thailand the darker skinned are hill people and country bumpkins. The Thai rulers are lighter skinned and same for the middle class and upper classes for the most part.

In Mexico/Central America the Euro_Spanish elites rule over the brown mestizo masses and the even darker Indians.

Hugo Chvavez broke this mold. He is a mix of black, Indian and white. He broke the grip on power the Euro_Spanish elite had on Venezuela. You had coups all the time there but the new rulers were always Euro_Spanish....until commie Hugo seized power.

I would imagine that these people would consider teaching children the most basic safety procedures—for example, avoiding high-crime areas—as “stereotyping”. From the data here, we can see that both black and white parents do this; it is simply common sense. Anything else would arguably constitute child abuse.

Until minority rates of violent crime fall to rates roughly consistent with that of whites, such “stereotyping” is not going away.

Lighter skin is favored almost everywhere around the world. In Mexico and South America you will find that to be true as well. What we call ‘beauty’ is also about things like facial proportions and symmetry and stuff like that that people cue off of subconsciously but consciously relate to as being attractive (or not).

So not everyone is beautiful. That’s life. I used to be attractive, now, not as much. As I get older I will be less so. Even with work to stay trim and healthy.

Blacks are much more sensitive to skin color than whites.

I remember asking a black foster child what one of his friends looked like, and he said "like my sister". I couldn't figure out why he was comparing a boy with his sister, until I realized he was just thinking about the shade of brown.

You should see how much it matters in Saudi Arabia. The families with lighter skin were the most powerful and had the most money. They are very conscience of this. Darker skinned Arabs were nearly at bottom of the pecking order. Arabs with African features were last in line and treated as such. Before I arrived there I always wondered why Syrians had so much influence. When I met them I noticed that many were so light skinned I mistook them for Frenchmen or Southern Europeans.

And Louis Farrakhan has stated that "White people are potential humans…they haven’t evolved yet." Maybe he was just thinking about the folks who live in Jesse Jackson's "Hymie-town".

Can't we all just get along?

I'm sick to death of race baiting libtards in the media and so-called social sciences, and the parasitic poverty pimps.

When all the hypocritical liberals have proportionate race/color staffs, and when they start marrying and dating persons other than those that look like they do, maybe they will have more credibility to take more seriously.

And why do they gloss over the fact 1) it’s peoples’ personal preferences as to whom they are attracted to? 2) a lot of what a person considers attractive is hardwired, and what they grew up around? 3) most people of any race/ethnic group want to date/marry a person that looks like them?

“Lighter skin is also favored in Asian countries “

Years ago, Fuji made a film (remember film?) called ‘Baby film’. it had a color spectrum shifted toward red to give the babys a pink look, making them look more western. It was a pretty big seller.

In college in the mid-70’s I lived in a house with Arab students (our house was actually the headquarters for the ASO, the Arab Students Organization - long story). We also had a black housemate. One day I was talking with a couple of the Arab students when the black student walked into the house and went up to his room. As soon as they saw him, they began talking in Arabic and laughing. I asked them what they were talking about and they said something about “a dark storm cloud coming through”. They definately did not like him (a Viet Nam vet and an extremely nice person). They were very prejudiced toward him.

I worked in the inner city for 30 years..often the only white employee in the agency .

What I saw made me very sad..Black parents teaching their kids that white people pick on them because of their color.. they are taught to hate whites and play the victim role at home.

Parents would tell me of incidents between their kids and a teacher or another authority, one I would have disciplined my kids for, and the parents told them the problem was the authority not their behavior.

I always felt bad for the kids, that were being raised as if this was still 1942 in the south..

My experience is that successful Black men came from homes that disciplined them and demanded excellence ..just like successful white kids..
The home and parents determine our future not our race .
