BALTIMORE (AP)A year ago, Calvin Borel jumped from the Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird onto Rachel Alexandra and won the Preakness.
This month, after winning his third Derby in four years, the standout jockey decided to stay aboard Super Saver for the Preakness and take a shot at capturing the Triple Crown.
The one similarity is that Borel entered the 2009 Preakness and Saturdays 135th edition certain his ride would end in the winners circle. Heck, he predicted a Triple Crown for Super Saver two weeks ago and wont back down from that assessment.

Going off somewhere around 5 to 2 favorite.
...... should be interesting in Maryland.

By the way ........... supposedly The Preakness was named after a horse who won a race the first year there in 1870.
What time is the race?

Here’s a link to the Results Chart for the 2010 Kentucky Derby (on pdf file):
Saw a stat the other day that in the last 40 years 85 to 90% of Preakness winners ran in the Derby. Pretty strong indicator but that and 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee. Good luck to every one!

Here are my long shot picks for the 2010 Preakness:
Dublin - morning line odds: 10-1
Yawanna Twist - morning line odds: 30-1
Both may be closing nicely in the stretch.

Actually, 30-1 morning line long shot, Yawanna Twist, should be laying just off the pace early on.
Curious to see how Paddy handles his first race on a fast dirt track. Looks like a Turf horse to me.
Expect Jackson Bend to go right to the lead and try to steal it. Remember Zito trained Louis Quatorze doing so.
Speaking of Louis Quatorze, the best horse from his generation died this week. Skip Away.
I was expecting more talk/support for First Dude...at least here on FR ;)

If only this punk could eat too many Buffalo wings and eat the dirt.....
I’ll put 5,000 down on Cripple’s Crutch (160 to 1)!
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
It’s more likely he’d simply kiss the porcelain god instead.
You do realize the Not-So-Secret Service can track you down from your posts on here, don’t you?
“supposedly The Preakness was named after a horse who won a race the first year there in 1870.”
It very much was.
Preakness was a solid good horse who won the 1st stake at Pimlico when it opened. That was the Dinner Party Stakes (named so because Pimlico was conceived at a dinner party of some of racing bigwigs in Saratoga), but soon after and through to today it is called the DIXIE STAKES (last race before Preakness Stakes today). Unfortunately, it was switched to turf decades ago, rather than maintaining its dirt roots, so in a way it’s not the same.
Preakness was sold to an Englishman in England and soon shot to death by him because the owner was so angry at his temper.
