ATLANTA (AP) -- When Jessica Colotl, an illegal immigrant college student, got arrested for a minor traffic violation at her suburban Atlanta campus, she became an accidental poster child for immigration reform.

On Friday, after getting arrested and released from detention for the second time in just over a month, she told reporters at a news conference she hopes her ordeal can help persuade leaders to work for an overhaul of the country's immigration laws.

Me too.

She should have been deported the first time she was arrested.

When Jessica Colotl, an illegal immigrant college student, got arrested

Why is she still in the country? Who's paying for her education?

Why was she not turned over to INS or whatever the hell the agency is named now.

She should have been put on a plane and flown back to her home country.

The deferred action on Colotl's case does not imply legal status but does authorize her to seek a work permit, ICE said.

There is the problem in black and white. Local authorities arrest her, turn her over and ICE coddles her. If it were up to the state of Georgia she would be in Mexico where she belongs. Once again the Feds drop the ball. Go Arizona!

Why wasn’t this parasite deported? Who made the decision to let her stay? Why does that person STILL have a job?

She’s broken two laws and is accused of breaking a third.

She has probably lied on her FAFSA and student aid loans, adding a fourth and fifth offense.

If she was driving in Georgia as an illegal alien she probably broke a fifth law “driving without a license” which any other American would have had additional charges placed upon them by the arresting officer.

But I agree, those laws should change, no one should have to have drivers licenses and college should be free for everyone, just like the Mexican UNAM system. Oh wait, even the Mexican government run Universities make foreigners get proper non-work student visas and pay full tuition to register for classes.

“She’s an American in her heart because she believes in the values of this country.”

She apparently doesn’t believe in the rule of law which is valued all Americans except criminals, politicians, and liberals.

Her parents were illegals , but, she’s a nice girl, move along.

” After lobbying by Kennesaw State officials and her sorority sisters, ICE released Colotl last week. Federal officials deferred action on her case for a year, allowing her to complete her classes.”

“Jessica may not have the documents that show that she’s an American citizen,
( like Obama ) but she’s an American,” Taylor ( her defense lawyer ) said.

Nonsense.
She is a poster child for reckless driving, breaking our traffic laws, flouting our immigration laws, arrogance and a sense of entitlement where none should exist.

IIRC she did not have a driver’s license because she was here illegally and was afraid to apply. Her minor traffic violation was then compounded by the fact she was driving without a license. I want to know if she had insurance and if she did how she got it?

Every student in this country who got here legally on a student visa should be outraged.

Her first arrest came on March 30, the day after getting pulled over by university police for a minor traffic violation. She was charged with driving without a license and impeding the flow of traffic.

Then, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office turned her over to officials with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who sent her to a detention center in Alabama. After lobbying by Kennesaw State officials and her sorority sisters, ICE released Colotl last week. Federal officials deferred action on her case for a year, allowing her to complete her classes.

But Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren obtained a new warrant for her arrest on Wednesday, saying she lied about her address when she was booked into jail following her initial arrest. Making a false statement to law enforcement is a felony under Georgia law.

Colotl turned herself in Friday morning and was released on $2,500 bond, according to sheriff’s office records.

The only reform needed is to boot her ass over the border.

If she were an American citizen, she’d be doing time in jail right now.

Exactly. I still want to know how she got insurance.

Taylor said he believes there is no merit to the sheriff’s charge that Colotl gave an incorrect address. The address she gave is a former address and her auto insurance and car registration still list it, he said. She also gave her current address to immigration officials and the sheriff’s office had access to that information, he said.
