After seeing her huge lead dwindle to two points in the California GOP gubernatorial primary, Meg Whitman has produced a new ad touting her firm stance against illegal immigration:

Whitman's primary opponent Steve Poizner has been attacking her for opposing the Arizona immigration law. In her new ad, Whitman says she wants national guard troops on the border and opposes amnesty and driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, but she doesn't reverse course on the Arizona law.

I don’t know anything about Poizner . . doubt if he is a conservative either. It just is a good issue for him in the Republican primary.

You are right about him not being a conservative, however, stacked up against Meg Whitman, he looks like Ronald Reagan.

Also, you are either very ignorant of Whitman's past and current policy positions or you are very ignorant about Ronald Reagan, because there is no comparison.

If Poizner take over the CA GOP, we’ll look back at Schwarzenegger as an ultraconservative. I can’t believe “conservatives” are actually pushing a candidate who would be the most left wing candidate in CA history. Don’t complain to me when you lose your job to an illegal or companies fleeing the state.

Do you think Meg Witman would be better?

Poizner is bad, but Whitman is a Democrat with a cheap Republican suit.

Do you know Poizner? He’s from my town. He has a long record of being against anything remotely conservative on immigration. He may say anything now, but if you believe him, your crazy.

Sadly, all the governor candidates have pretty much the same stance on illegal immigration.

Not so, Steve Poizner has said that cutting public benefits to illegals and revoking business licenses of companies that employ them has to be implemented for CA to regain financial solvency. Whitman has not put forth ONE idea that will help CA economy.
She says that she will be tough on businesses hiring of illegals but did she suggest ANY consequences? No, hers would be the same old slap on the wrist. Truth is Meg, even if EVERY company fired their illegal workers tomorrow we would STILL be in the same if not worse mess since they would be after more food and housing assistance.

So I take it you would support Whitman, who has a worse sordid background, and additionally, has much worse CURRENT policy positions, correct?

You have two choices in the Governors race in CA, bad, and completely worse.

Make your choice wisely.

Like Tom McClintock, of the two candidates, I choose Poizner as the more conservative of the two.

There is no conservative here, but we have to choose one or the other, and Meg Whitman is the worst possible choice.

Don’t forget that Ronald Reagan was also a liberal Democrat at one time . . a strong supporter of ultra-liberal FDR and Harry Truman.

As far as I could tell Ronald Reagan wasn't a pandering, bold face liar so other than running for governor, where's the comparison?

So, what does that have to do with the Ronald Reagan that existed from the 60's onward and that conservative adore?

What does that have to do with your ridiculous comparison of him with Whitman?

You're a Myth Romney supporter, aren't you?

The same lame comparisons have been made before concerning Reagan and Myth, they were wrong then, just as you are now.

Don’t confuse someone registering Democrat in the 1930s and switching to endorsing Republicans by 1952 as a “liberal”.

That is hardly relevant here in the 21st century after the 1960s, Vietnam, and the presidencies of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan himself.

Does not compute.

Donations for Democrats?

Whitman is either delusional or has bigger stones than most males
to then run as an (R).
Seeing how I’ve not seen her on TV giving a Reaganesque testimony about
how she realizes the Democrats are corrupt and evil.

(Maybe she has done this, but if so, it’s very under-reported)

Just for the record, Dwight Eisenhower was your proto-typical liberal RINO . . Ike was touting 90 percent tax rates during his admimistration.

So in keeping with your hard core liberalism, you even choose to support Truman over Eisenhower?

As far as I know, Truman never ran against Ike.

But then, what do I know?

Sorry, Adlai Stevenson.

Of course you could still have answered the question anyway, are you claiming that Ronald Reagan endorsed Eisenhower because he was more liberal? Do you prefer Stevenson?

Since you asked me, I will tell you that you don’t know much, as you always gravitate to the most liberal option available.

“With Bennett’s defeat in Utah and the obvious sentiments being expressed by the Tea Party people and many others I expect we are going to see just about every “moderate” Republican (and not a few rats) suddenly lurch to the right. This is fine with me but the obvious downside is that, once elected, they simply go back to business as usual”

Correct ... BUT ... it is better that they pander to conservative voters than take them for granted. The message of Bennett is simple: WE ARE WATCHING WHAT YOU DO. The game of pre-election panders followed by post election let-downs is a ticket to retirement.

True ... but ... Ronald Reagan was himself a Democrat in his younger years, so he probably did help Democrats.

I think he switched to GOP in 1960 for Nixon.

When Reagan is evoked its usually Reagan the Governor or President.

Besides, the democrats of today are more like the Marxists Reagan stood against even when he called himself a democrat.

OK, someone else mentioned RR switched in 1952 and that side-issue has been beaten to death ... “never mind”.

Fact is that Boxer et al are liberals, so a true conservative would NOT be supporting them.... BUT, Poizner is alos a RINO-type Republican.

I think Cali GOP conservative need to recognize that their state party is the Cleveland Indians of politics. You cant make is to the world series this year, so just get some points on the board.

Pick the most conservative of the electable GOP candidates and help them defeat the liberal Dem. Remember, Poizner and Whiteman both are much much better on borders than any Democrat will be, and apparently Arnold as well.
