For the first time in 40 years, Heinz ketchup is changing its famous recipe -- by lowering the salt content in an effort to appeal to more health-conscious consumers, the company said yesterday.

Oh well, at least this move, coupled with the fact that the product carries John F’n Kerry’s wife’s name, makes it a no doubter that I’ll be buying Hunts or Brooks or anything but Heinz.
Then by all means, do.
Although it seems odd that if there were a market demand, such an item would already exist, and there would be no need to twiddle with an established successful product.

It smells more like a market ploy by the company, IMHO, but if you think well enough of their product to be a Teresa HEINZ Kerry groupie, knock yourself out.

Thanks for the tip. Will try the Walgreen’s brand for ketchup. I only use ketchup for fries or for meatloaf, but I want it to taste like it did when I was a kid.
Drats! Why are they making all my childhood favorites taste different? The Oreo’s don’t taste the same, neither do the Twinkies, Ding-Dongs or cupcakes. While I am far from beig a junk food junkie, when I buy them, I want them to taste like they did when I was 10.

Heinz No Salt Ketchup is in my fridge right now.
This change to the regular recipe makes no sense except
to pander to the Bloombergs of the world.
I doubt the ketchup advisory board would allow that.
Fries haven't tasted the same since they stopped getting fried in beef fat.

You know that for a fact? You have tasted the new product? Or you just don’t like change...
Note that I am not praising or condemning Heinz. The reduction in sodium is negligible. It is not so much about reducing sodium as it is about increasing potassium in the American diet to make it more healthy. Some tomato juice/veggie juice manufacturers have used less sodium chloride, replacing it with potassium chloride. This is a healthy move. We all need potassium in our diet - 4.5 to 5 grams as an average daily dose. Food is best source. This can be complemented with potassium chloride. Forget potassium supplements - FDA has limited over-the-counter supplements to 100 mg of potassium...not significant.
This move on the part of Heinz is, I would think, mostly PR and PC. And btw, Bloomberg is an idiot.
The amount of salt on the fries varies from location to location. Some use restraint with the salt shaker and others absolutely cover the fries in salt.
Boycott tanning beds.
I'm from the Government. I cannot let you buy low sodium ketchup. It contributes to global warming and is a hate food.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pointing fingers. It's darned difficult to do/see/buy anything now days without inadvertently supporting a liberal in one way or another.
But you're right....it's more than likely political pandering by the nanny-staters.
I have not bought Heinz products since the Kerry campaign.
Hunt’s and Del Monte are fine for me.
They put the Moonpies on a 'diet' too. The last bunch I bought were downright scrawny.
Can't find any banana flips, either.
They've probably been declared illegal by the Deparment of Caloric Intake by now.
