L.A. Vs. Arizona

Illegal Immigration: Los Angeles' city council votes to boycott Arizona for its enforcement of existing federal law. No word yet on how China's human rights violations will be treated. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

The next time the Lakers play Los Suns in Phoenix, traveling fans are advised to bring their own snacks. The L.A. City Council voted 13-1 on Wednesday to economically boycott the state of Arizona for daring to protect its borders against the crime, violence and illegal immigration that recently took the life of an Arizona rancher and has made Phoenix the kidnapping capital of the U.S.

Council member and co-sponsor Janice Hahn, who is also running for California lieutenant governor, was asked about the Lakers' upcoming NBA playoff series with the Suns. Games 3 and 4 are scheduled in Phoenix. Hahn told NBCLA, "If you go, we're hoping you take your own snacks and won't buy things in Arizona." This is beyond silly.

The Arizona law, SB1070, empowers local police officers to check the immigration status of individuals whom they have encountered during a "lawful contact," if an officer reasonably suspects the person stopped of being in the country illegally, and if an inquiry into the person's status is "practicable."

Councilman Ed Reyes, one of the measure's co-sponsors, sees it differently: "As an American, I cannot go to Arizona today without a passport. If I come across an officer who's having a bad day and feels that the picture on my ID is not me, I can be ... deported, no questions asked. That is not American." Neither is it true.

First of all, a State legislator in CA has proposed that CA not import electricity from other States or Mexico, where it is produced not in compliance with CA CO2 laws. This is about 20% of their electricity.

It is mostly directed at the coal fired Navajo Generating Station, because the left bitterly hates coal and wants to outlaw its use altogether.

Second, AZ currently keeps tens of thousands of CA prisoners in private prisons. So if the boycott is legitimate, they should be sent home to CAs already overcrowded prisons, or released in CA.

There are only three major crossings on the border between AZ and CA. They have fruit inspection stations on them, that could easily be turned into citizenship inspection stations. If you’re not a legal citizen, turn your vehicle around, Californian.

Arizona won’t need as much money when the illegals leave and education, health care, welfare, law enforcement, destruction of property, etc. costs go down.

...Maybe Arizona can move all the illegal immigrants to Hell Angel, and let them deal with it. Bravo, Arizona, for standing up against the Feds...

If Jan Brewer cut off the Colorado River water to L.A., then they’d find out what a REAL drought is like!

Maybe Los Suns can move to Nuevo Laredo.

Wow, what a racist thing to say.

Obviously the illegal immigrants who have broken federal law by either entering illegally or overstaying a visa deserve all of the following: free education, health care, welfare, etc. After all, the law doesn't really mean anything. What we need to do is give them everything they need with other people's money. In fact, we need to institute an affirmative action program for illegal aliens. They are severely underrepresented at most universities in this country. Something has to be done.

CA has water. The problem is they won’t release it in Central CA where it is mostly agricultural because of the smelt fish environmental concerns.

A petition on AZ Governor Jan Brewer’s page offers you a chance to sign showing your support for her decision to sign SB1070 into law for immigration reform. She’s getting a lot of negative press over this when she should be praised.

It takes less than two minutes:

まあ、そういう事もたまにある。。。

Not really a requirement per se, but one's stay in Japan will become 400% more fruitful, meaningful and profitable, if one after a considerable time here, mastered the language of the host country. Not doing so, you would lose out on so much.

That is why keeping Mexicans and other immigrants down with bilingual education is such a disaster and a disservice, rather than a service which they--do gooding libs, think it is. It only hinders. As usual, even with the best intents, everything the progressives touch socially turns to crap.

I live in So Cal, and LA is not going to get any discretionary spending out of me until this PC-driven insanity against Arizona ends. In fact, in Janice’s honor, I am declaring a “girlcott.” Since Ms. Hahn feels it is her city’s responsibility to punish the racist good old boys in our neighbor to the east, I propose that everyone withold their sales tax contributions to LA - a reverse boycott (girlcott).

If enough conservatives sign up, we can drive home the point that stupid actions lead to painful consequences.
