This was posted a couple of weeks ago, but the issue is well alive. I appreciate comments here and on my website (where charts and sources can be found).

FWIW, we have a VAT here in Canada. A Conservative government introduced it — & Conservatives continue to (generally) support it. Leftists are opposed.
Of course, there are many ways that a VAT could be screwed up — the main one being, where it’s just a tax grab. (Canadian income taxes were reduced, before the GST was introduced.)

A value added tax, or VAT for short, is something that has been floating around Washington for some time now as a solution to help the trillion dollar deficit woes. Hmmmm. A deficit results from spending more money than you have.
There is a simpler solution.

All leftist politics stink! The VAT isn’t alone when it comes to leftist politics and how much it stinks.

"Most Americans probably do not know what a VAT is, considering it is a fairly recent European idea..." And look how well it has worked for them!

As the Wizard of Id comic strip put it long ago...
Sir Rodney: Sire, we have an INCOME tax. Why don't we have an OUTGO tax?
The King: You idiot! The peasants will never stand for it. We'll have a SALES tax instead.

We seriously need to seize the majorities in November before these thugs have a chance to shake us down any more.

FWIW, we have a VAT here in Canada. A Conservative government introduced it & Conservatives continue to (generally) support it. Leftists are opposed. What do the leftists want as an alternative? Do they want the fairly distributed VAT replaced with a progressive income tax?
I would prefer a VAT to our current tax code, but I don't want to risk the chance of getting both. No big changes until the 16th amendment is not merely repealed, but changed to something which prohibits federal income and payroll taxes.

The main reason the Democrats think we “need” a VAT is that about 50% of Americans do not pay income tax now.
A VAT will allow the Democrats to collect substantial tax revenue from that “poor” 50%, without revealing themselves to be “takers”, not “givers”. The VAT is essentially a stealth “income tax” that falls most heavily on the “poor”.
Some call that bait-and-switch tactic: “Hope and change”.

and cost every U.S. household $10,680 annually Should say "cost the average U.S. household $10,680 annually" and even that is somewhat misleading.

A Conservative government introduced it & Conservatives continue to (generally) support it. Leftists are opposed. A distinction which is lost on me. I see no real difference between one side of the aisle or the other here in the US. Two different species in the same genus as far as I'm concerned.

flog my blog? Is this not an open forum?
I am new to this site and have been very impressed with the vast amount of conservative ideas flowing through it.
Of course I am hoping to get blog traffic, but that will only happen if someone is that interested in my content. If I wanted to only promote my blog I would just post excepts forcing you to visit my site to read the rest.
