An international maritime treaty means suspected pirates can be tried in the home countries of their victims but some governments have been put off this course of action for fear that convicted pirates might not return to Somalia after serving out their time in jail. Kuznetzov seemed to echo this when he said: "Why should we feed some pirates?"
Russian media reported that the 10 men were set adrift in a boat with no navigational equipment, and that contact was lost with the boat's radio beacon within an hour. However, Commander John Harbour, a spokesman for the EU naval force in Somalia, told the BBC that the loss of navigation equipment would not necessarily be critical and that the signal from the beacon could vanish if the battery ran out or it entered a satellite blind spot.
One Somali news website reported a conversation with an unidentified pirate who claimed the men were indeed dead but said they had all been shot before they were loaded into the skiff. There is no evidence for this account
re already fighting that sort of war in Afghanistan. Note the new Medal for Cowardice in the face of the enemy.
“It seems the Russian catch and release policy is more effective than other nations policies.”
I think it would only take a handful more incidents in which Russia or other countries dealt with pirates in this fashion and the Somali pirate problem would magically disappear.
I would believe an unidentified pirate as much as I would Palestinian sources.
Exactly...When the people in Somalia running this show only get dead pirates instead of ships and crews they can ransom it’ll stop, this has been allowed to continue far too long.
and the problem with that is????
Well, maybe we would have put panties on their heads, but then we would agonized over it for several years.
“Sunbathers watch Russian marines training for Navy Day, on a beach of the Neva River in St Petersburg, Russia.”
But why are they pointing guns at the Muslim sunbather in the burqa?
Their commander put the Anna and her cousin there as a test to make sure the guys could pay attention to their assignment.
This gets strong consideration as my next tagline.
Okay, perhaps the pirates were bleeding, but the Russians released them alive and with an inflatable boat (did the shots produce a leak in the boat too?). I'll bet they were even read some form of their Miranda rights: "you have the right to remain silent - permanently". What more do liberals want from Russia?
For the first time in my life I have a reason to like the Ruskie Squids.....
If we could have a small marine carrier their, with a 2 engine prop plane with a Gattling gun on both sides and high teck photo cameras, then we could see what they have and those small skiffs, and if it is pirates with pirates gear, give them the 1000 round a minute, for 20 seconds until they are all dead. They don’t go by the rules, neighter should we. Africa cannot attack us, they don’t have shit. 1 carrier and 2 gattling guns planes for long distance flying 3 or 4 times a day there won’t be many small skiffs left, after a few month or pirates. Then us frigits to board the bigger mother ship that don’t stop to be searched, or answer they ship radios, and if pirates aboard kill them. If every pirates that go to sea does not return, we will win, win.
