She hasn’t paid anything in to it but she can collect? For what, staying home breathing?
If that is the case why is it when one spouse dies, the remaining spouse can’t collect on both wage earners contributions. Say both paid in for 40 years, one dies before retirement, remaining spouse can only receive from one wage earners contributions. Yet, the one who has never paid in can collect for sitting at home.

i am not sure that a “stay at home” mom would be considered, “just sitting around at home.”
Just an opinion.

You think a wife doesn’t do anything while she stays home> Do you think raising children, nursing them back to health when they are sick, or cleaning the house, doing the cooking, laundry, shopping for groceries, ect is nothing?

My wife and I file a joint return. My earnings are her earnings as well.
I work hard so she doesn’t have to have a job outside the home.
She damn well entitled to collect social security (when the time comes) from our joint income and taxes paid.

Do you realize how much more someone has to make in order for their spouse to stay at home? Sometimes working 2 jobs?Do the math... higher salarie, more money deducted for Social Security. You may get a little more personal benefit, but the rest just goes into the SS pot. To me it's like the one is working/paying extra so their stay at home spouse can have benefits!! In other words, paying for their spouses benefits. Can't even address the comment devaluing a stay at home parent... just ignorant.
