Ann Arbor school district ends controversial program only open to black students (Update)

The Ann Arbor school district has ended a controversial black-student only program at Dicken Elementary School.

“Lunch Bunch is no longer,” district spokeswoman Liz Margolis said in an e-mail to AnnArbor.com. “It will be discussed among staff and some parents and be reworked. It has a valuable goal of assisting children who are not performing well on the MEAP, and this effort will continue.”

Dicken Principal Mike Madison drew criticism from parents following his decision last week to take members of the African-American Lunch Bunch on a field trip to hear a black rocket scientist at the University of Michigan speak. Only black students were invited on the trip.

After the trip, classmates who were excluded booed those who went. Madison went into the class, and parents have complained he berated the students. District officials have said he was just having a “passionate” discussion about race issues.

“Lunch Bunch is no longer”

Let me correct this idiot. It was the AA Lunch Bunch. (see the links in post 1)

AA Lunch Bunch. Some in those previous threads thought - naturally enough - that it stood for the Ann Arbor Lunch Bunch.

bzzzzzz - WRONG!

3 guesses what the AA actually stands for.

So they chose to terminate the program rather than open it up to students of all races? Were the colors reversed, there would have been an immediate lawsuit.

Don’t count on them ending in anything more than word.

The Pacific educational group was paid some $300,000 to come up with programs like this and they infect the nation.

The Lunch bunch is actually a local program inspired by this group which is the real problem and its national.

Go to Pacific Educational’s website and look at the cleverly acronymed associated 501c3s

Someone needs to create a 501c3 to vacuum in major funding while getting the message across to the racists that there is no “WHITE PEOPLE”.

W.H.I.T.E.: Widely Hued Individual under-Tanned Earthlings!

Look at the census literature: origin based groups and “White”!!?? WTH (and i do mean “HECK!!”)

It has become a tired scape goat to use the group “white” as an icon to fund racist groups. I don’t have the special key to “white opportunity”, that is for sure.

As a minor point, I know for a fact there are children of “non-color” that are “under-achieving”.

I would support this new 501c3, “WHITE”. We could once again elaborate on the incredible diversity of lighter hued individuals and enjoy the modulation across the spectrum of humanity into darker hued individuals. We could enjoy the diversity of minor things like color and concentrate on the content of our character!

And maybe redistribute some truth. Because the race card seems to be working for some, while my race card never came in the mail!!

Among the issues that have been raised is whether the Lunch Bunch violated Proposal 2, a 2006 state law banning preferential treatment based on race.

Speaking of Ann Arbor and "banning preferential treatment based on race," why hasn't there been more pressure on the U of M to tweak its its undergrad admissions policy so as to be in compliance with not only Proposal 2 but with the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution as per the SCOTUS decision regarding that specific policy?
