I don’t think it’s a bad policy to encourage kids to eat well and to ban sugary snacks.
If you don’t like this kind of intrusiveness, send your kids to a private school or homeschool them.
Two big reasons responsible parents are slowly but surely abandoning public schools to homeschool or send them to private schools:
- Idiotic rules that treat little kids like criminals for petty bureaucrat-authored 'offenses' that accomplish nothing at all except to embarrass the child and harass his or her parents by making them appear to have a 'problem' child (for eating a piece of candy).
- teachers and principals that are unwilling to exercise even a modicum of judgment (common sense) and opt to impose unnecessary, sometimes draconian punishment on an innocent child, then hide behind the coward's historic excuse: "I'm only following the rules".
The real problem in public schools isn't junk food or kids that play 'too many' video games, it's a severe lack of student discipline (especially in high schools) and teachers unions that allow inept teachers to stay employed for years.
With the government issuing meals for all of us, for our own good.
We should ban mininmally intelligent teachers.”
That would empty the teacher unions right quick, IMO.
Who can remember the early ‘nuggets’ ads—and the contrasting ads that said”Parts is parts”.
I have only eaten ONE Chiken Nuggets lunch in my life.
I just cannot get past the “Parts is Parts” memory.
If the company that owns Jolly Rancher doesn’t make a very high profile point of offering to pay for this kid to go to the best private school in the area next year, the head of their marketing department should be fired.””
Great idea!!
Jolly Rancher has sponsored racing vehicles for a number of years.
Next thing- such racing sponsorship will be banned like the tobacco companies are now banned.

I would demand they seize and search every staff member’s purses and pockets. I’m sure there’s non-nutritional gum, and candy hiding there. Rules are rules, as the principal says.
If you outlaw Jolly Ranchers, only outlaws will have sour apples.
Totally agree. Those are certainly bigger problems! I think the school is trying to control what they can because they really aren’t going to be able to do much about the issues you cited.
