I understand why the Mexican/Americans are so proud of their Mexican heritage. I mean, what other country has been as Corrupt and backward for over 200 years. This is amazing when you really think about it. How on earth has Mexico gotten by without collapsing?

Mexico is a failed (collapsed) state for a long time already. That's how we classify countries whose governments exist but are not in control. And the Mexican government is clearly not in control of most things, crime and border security to name a few.
