Charlie Crist is Leading in Florida. Huh?
National Review - Campaign Spot ^ | 3-7-2010 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 05/07/2010 3:26:11 PM PDT by Frantzie

Yesterday I wondered if a Rasmussen poll in Florida’s Senate race showing Charlie Crist leading with 38 percent, Marco Rubio at 34 percent, and Kendrick Meek at 17 percent could be somehow off-kilter.

Now Mason-Dixon, one of the pollsters I trust most, offers similar numbers: Crist 38, Rubio 32, Meek 19.

Looks like Rubio's comments on AZ hurt his chances.

Maybe Rubio should sign a pledge that he will never back amnesty. Maybe that creep Connie Mack the RINO should sign it too.

In an election year when Republicans can win Ted Kennedy's seat, the FL RINO GOP could screw up anything.

Frantzie I’ve been saying that Rubio is loads better than Crist BUT he has hemmed and hawed about his position on amnesty and a few folks here continue to flame me.
BUT it is true as was his initial dislike for the Arizona bill.
I’m sure hoping my support for Rubio isn’t for a RINO in waiting???

Don’t worry people, right now it’s just been ‘inside baseball’, as Rush would say. No one really knows Rubio outside of the Republican Party...once this becomes a serious race (especially after Labor Day), thing will go south FAST for Crist.

We should be very clear on who benefits on immigration reform...only Latinos from Mexico. Everybody else...from Cuba to Haiti, from Nigeria and onto Russia....are all secondary in this reform episode. The minute that people come to realize how the cards are stacked...the game dissolves very quickly.

If a week ago Rubio was leading by double digits and you now have a turn around like this just because Crist goes independent where did all these folks come from?

I'll wait a few weeks before I start paying attention to polls in FL.

Most Floriduh residents still think Crist is a Republican. You do not realize how politically ignorant most voters are.

pepsionice,
I do not know if Cubans will continue their foot on soil deal? A very good one for them for decades.
While say a Haitian doing the same gets a one way ticket home.

Bama boy huh? Just went sailing on Lake Guntersville. Absolutely beautiful area.

I honestly have to say that your support is probably for a RINO in waiting. But you have to ask yourself, which RINO is worse. Some would say the RINO they don’t know is worse than the RINO they already know. I say perhaps we can knock some sense into this new RINO early and remind him where to place his allegiance. I don’t expect a single thing out of Crist from now on. But maybe Rubio will listen to reason.

I think a lot of people will call themselves “independents” at this point in time if given the option. It makes them look thoughtful. Consider it good news, because a lot of them are Dems turning on Obama.

I read something somewhere that said that 63 percent of “independents” who voted for Obama said that they wouldn’t do so next time. If that’s true, Obama is done already. Stick a fork in him.

All the (R)’s have to do is put someone up against this guy who is more (C) than (R), is more (I) than (D), and kick his ass to the Chicago speaking circuit. Then after he’s at it for a few years, we can ask him, “So did you think that this is that certain point where YOU’VE made enough money, Mister President?”

The balls in Rubio’s court. A LOT of conservatives worked to elect and voted for Mel Martinez and they were burned with his RINO crap and his push for amnesty.

Mel was a Bush guy too. We had to fight Mel, McCain, Bush, Rove and others to block McCain & Teddy’s amnesty.

Speak up Rubio. The ball is in your court. Are you a conservative who will stand for America and fight any threat of amnesty and illegal immigration or are you Mel Martinez 2?

If you are a conservative - you serve all Americans not just an ethnic group you belong too. Conservatives and over 61% of Americans support AZ’s law.

Just for the record - Crist is a joke.

What on earth for? That might actually be prudent.

I'm not ready yet to call a troll a troll, but at the very least there are a few folks in FL that could cut back on the coffee after 2pm.

Rubio was leading in the primary polling (republicans only) - now they are polling the whole state. Rubio is keeping his majority of republicans, and Crist is getting a big chunk of democrats added to his numbers.

This is from the Miami Herald on the Mason Dixon poll:

The Mason-Dixon poll released Thursday found Crist receiving 38 percent of the vote, compared to 32 percent for the likely Republican nominee, former House Speaker Marco Rubio, and 19 percent for the leading Democratic contender, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami. Eleven percent are undecided. More than half of Crist's supporters are Democrats, who overwhelmingly approve of his defection from the GOP and recent veto of a controversial teacher tenure bill. Against the lesser-known Miami congressman, who is black, Crist is favored by 19 percent of black voters and 48 percent of Democrats, according to the survey. Meek wins support from 68 percent of black voters and 36 percent of Democrats. Read more: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/05/06/1616639/poll-charlie-crist-holds-lead.html#ixzz0nHoy9Kv6

You underestimate how many people in FL also hate Mel Martinez for pushing for amnesty then disappearing in the middle of the night.

Rubio talking against the AZ law made a lot of people immediately think of Mel. Just when I thought Crist was the biggest idiot in the world - Rubio beat him to the punch. Judy Garland is not looking so dumb right now.

The RINO FL GOP - s*cks.

Yeah, like you say,
I voted for Mel Martinez, puke.
I’m just hoping Rubio isn’t like Mel.
I’m sure some very intelligent political operative grabbed Marco and splained things to him.
What bothers me is that some smart cookie had to in the 1st place.
Is he a Reagan conservative or is he Mel II

The polls now include Democrats and independents. The double-digit leads for Rubio were for a Republican primary.
